Premier League explains controversial Arsenal red card as Liverpool gets title boost
The Premier League confirmed that Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card for serious foul play after bringing Matt Doherty down during Arsenal's game at Wolves.
Lewis-Skelly has emerged as a regular for Mikel Arteta's side in recent weeks but was sent for an early shower as half-time approached at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.
Just seconds prior to the teenager's dismissal, the Gunners had a corner, but the corner came to nothing and Wolves quickly looked to spring a counter-attack.
Lewis-Skelly was situated on the edge of the penalty area as Doherty attempted to spring away from the Wolves penalty area and cynically brought the Irishman down.

Most viewers would have been expecting referee Michael Oliver to brandish a yellow card, but the official went sraight for the red, much to the surprise of Arsenal's players.
A statement issued by the Premier League said: "The referee’s call of a red card for Lewis-Skelly was checked and confirmed by VAR, who deemed his challenge to have been serious foul play."
It is the fourth time Arsenal has had a player sent off in the Premier League this season after Declan Rice's dismissal against Brighton, Leandro Trossard's sending-off at Manchester City and William Saliba's straight red card against Bournemouth. Arsenal did not go on to win any of those matches.
