Premier League releases statement on 98th minute Everton equalizer vs Liverpool
The Premier League has issued a statement on James Tarkowski's late equalizing goal versus Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
With the Reds seemingly heading towards a 2-1 victory, the ball dropped to Everton captain Tarkowski in the visiting team's penalty area and he crashed a volley into the top corner.
That sparked raucous celebrations around Goodison Park, but the home players were forced to endure a lengthy wait to find out whether the goal would stand amid suspicions of a possible offside, as well as a possible foul on Ibrahima Konate, who appeared to be nudged out of the way of a ball into the box by Beto.

The Premier League's statement made no reference to a possible foul on Konate in the build-up to the goal, as it simply said: "The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by the VAR- who established that Doucoure was in an onside position in the build-up."
The drama did not end with the goal, though, as tensions boiled over at full-time when Doucoure celebrated Everton's point in front of the travelling Liverpool supporters.
That understandably irked Reds midfielder Curtis Jones, who came on as a second-half substitute, as he sprinted over to the former Watford player and shoved him in the back, sparking a huge melee between both sets of players.
Jones was shown a second yellow card for his role in the scuffle, while Doucoure also received a second yellow card having been booked earlier in the game, and Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was also sent off in the aftermath.
