Manchester United will be targeting a second successive victory when they face Fulham in the Premier League at Craven Cottage this evening.

United will travel to the capital with the ambition of building on Thursday night's dramatic 2-1 Europa League win over Rangers. Bruno Fernandes netted a 92nd-minute winner to all but seal United's place in the last-16.

But before they can think about attempting to tie up their place in the first knockout round of the competition in Romania on Thursday night, focus switches back to the bread and butter of the Premier League, and attempting to secure a first away league win since beating Manchester City six weeks ago.

United have won just three of their first 11 league games under head coach Ruben Amorim and have lost four of their last six.

Here are five things to look out for at Craven Cottage this evening:

Who starts at the back?

Both Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro failed to complete an hour against Rangers, both being forced off as precautions amid injury fears. De Ligt did not reappear for the second half and Yoro was withdrawn with 55 minutes on the clock.

United finished the game with a back-three consisting of Diogo Dalot, who had started at left wing-back, Harry Maguire, who replaced De Ligt at half-time, and Lisandro Martinez. The latter had been recalled to the XI after being given a rare breather against Brighton & Hove Albion four days earlier.

United have started with a different back-three in three of their last four matches, meaning they desperately need to try and find some consistency at the back. De Ligt, Maguire and Martinez started the impressive away performances against Arsenal and Liverpool and must be considered as a trio again if the former is fit enough to start.

Andre Onana will also be eyeing a return in goal after making way for Altay Bayindir in midweek. Amorim said that swap was down to nothing other than rotation amid Onana's clanger against Brighton last weekend.

Fulham can't be underestimated

Fulham are enjoying a fine season, currently sitting 10th in the table, seven points ahead of United. They have lost just one of their last 10 league matches and are unbeaten at home in their last six in league and cup.

As well as being fairly consistent with their results this term, Marco Silva's men have also been very consistent in front of goal, failing to score in just two of their first 22 league games this season. One of those blanks was against United on the opening night of the season back in August.

Only Liverpool (one) have failed to score in fewer league games than Fulham this season, highlighting that United will have to be at their very best if they are to keep just a second clean sheet under Amorim.

More late drama?

After beating both Southampton and Rangers via very late goals, United will be hoping to have the game sewn up by the time the fourth official steps forward and holds his board aloft at Craven Cottage. Amad scored in the 90th and 94th minutes against the Saints before Fernandes struck with 92 minutes on the clock against Rangers.

However, United and Fulham have both contributed to their fair share of late drama in their most recent meetings, so much so Joshua Zirkzee's 87th-minute winner on the opening night of the season could be considered as an early goal.

Fulham beat United 2-1 at Old Trafford last season via a 97th-minute winner from Alex Iwobi, just under four months after Fernandes scored a 91st-minute winner for the Reds in the reverse meeting at Craven Cottage, sealing a 1-0 win.

United also beat Fulham with an injury-time goal at Craven Cottage in November 2022 when Alejandro Garnacho scored his first Premier League goal to seal a 2-1 triumph with 93 minutes played.

Zirkzee or Hojlund?

If ever a situation highlighted just how desperately United need to sign a striker before the transfer window closes, the ongoing debate about who should start up front out of Rasmus Hojlund and Zirkzee confirms it.

They have scored a paltry 11 goals between them this season (five in the Premier League) and neither have them have found the back of the net in any of United's last eight matches. Zirkzee was the last to score, netting in the 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Zirkzee has started the last two games and offered more to United's overall play than Hojlund has when he has recently been given the nod. Neither player is currently a lucrative option but Amorim is going to have to pick one of them to lead the line.

A ludicrous kick-off time

For the second time in the space of a fortnight, United play in the capital on a Sunday - but this time kick-off is four hours later. In the absence of TNT Sports broadcasting a Premier League game in their traditional 12.30pm slot on Saturday lunchtime, United's clash with Fulham will be screened live at 7pm on Sunday evening.

It is a kick-off time that once again highlights that supporters are the last people to be considered when these ludicrous decisions are made. Nevertheless, United's supporters will travel in numbers for a game that has been confirmed as a sell-out.

United's fans will be hoping to travel back up north in as jovial a mood as they were when they left the Emirates Stadium two weeks ago.
