Head coach Ruben Amorim has become well-known for speaking his mind since arriving at Old Trafford, always giving an honest view of the trials of being a Manchester United manager - but some United fans in The Manchester Evening News comments section would prefer that he wasn't and that more of his brutal public comments weren't broadcast to the world.

The exile of Marcus Rashford has provided some of those comments, with the latest being Amorim all-but saying that he would rather have his goalkeeping coach on the substitutes bench than the United wantaway. Rashford revealed that he was "ready" for a new challenge before the January transfer window opened, but suitable clubs are few and far between and no firm action has yet been taken.

Amorim has also tried jolting his players into action with the distant prospect of relegation, and once called them possibly the "worst team" in the club's rich history - a statement he is claimed to regret. His public comments have been a source of contention as the club battle to restore their form and adapt to Amorim's system.

Some fans reckon he's right to challenge underperformers. Reader Ghostdad says: "You can only deal with things privately for so long. The fans know the score, they have called out Rashford continuously and needed to be said."

Others think that Amorim is trying to get a concession from his players, like commenter Tankjr: "I don't necessarily believe Ruben when he says this, and think the only reason Marcus isn't on the bench and gets used for the last 25 minutes of a game to give us a tactical edge is because how he went about informing the club he wanted to leave.

"A public apology and a retraction of that statement would, probably, result in him warming the subs bench and eventually playing - with no change in his training."

Kderek743 says: "He's definitely doing himself no good about this Marcus issue and others, he's talking too much to the media. Let him learn to respect our players..."

MrmrT writes: "By calling out Rashford to the press, you reduce his value. Any issues should be dealt with behind closed doors and not in the press. [Erik] Ten Hag reduced the value of [Jadon' Sancho by millions by making issues public. They need to learn from Fergie [Sir Alex Ferguson]!"

NickinFrance writes: "I'm finding this whole situation ridiculous, and it seems daft in the extreme for Amorim to keep saying these things that might scupper any chance of a transfer.

"By all accounts, Rashford has been turning up and training as required. I can't say what goes on there, but there have been some open sessions.

"The comments about being open to leave came well after club sources were making clear 'noises' about selling him. Amorim can play him or not, but these public comments are and counter productive. SAF would never have taken such action - and there's a chance Rashford will end up there longer than Amorim."
