Said Benrahma: David Moyes confident winger remains committed to West Ham after Lyon transfer collapse

David Moyes insists he is confident Said Benrahma will remain fully committed to West Ham for the remainder of the season, despite missing out on a deadline day move to Lyon.

Benrahma’s proposed loan switch fell through in the final hours of the window after the two clubs failed get the deal signed off in time.

Benrahma had flown to France to undergo a medical in the expectation of joining the Ligue 1 side in a transfer that would have included an obligation-to-buy in the summer worth more than £15million.

In a public statement, Lyon blamed West Ham for the paperwork issue and accused the club of a lack of respect, while Fifa are investigating the situation, as well as Pablo Fornals’s move to Real Betis, which is also yet to be ratified.

Barring another twist, Benrahma is expected to return to east London for the remainder of the season at least, though he is still in the middle of a three-match suspension that will rule him out of Sunday’s Premier League trip to face Manchester United.

Moyes was desperate to sign a left-winger during the January window and with Lucas Paqueta still sidelined, his failure to do so could see Benrahma called upon again at some stage this term.

“It’s something we’ve never had to deal with before and I’m an experienced manager,” Moyes said. “We’ll have to see. He’s suspended for this week so he’s not available at the moment. We’ll deal with it when we get back into a period where we can play him.”

Asked whether he felt Benrahma would be committed to the club, the Scot added: “I would expect so, yes.”
