Slovakia vs Ukraine LIVE! Euro 2024 result, match stream and latest updates today
Ukraine kept their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of Euro 2024 alive with a dramatic turnaround to stun Slovakia in Dusseldorf. Roman Yaremchuk came off the bench to net a stylish late winner for Serhiy Rebrov’s side on Friday afternoon, after Mykola Shaparenko had swept home an Oleksandr Zinchenko cross to cancel out another early effort from Ivan Schranz - his second of the tournament.
The 2-1 comeback win for Ukraine blows things wide open in Group E, with Slovakia having missed the chance to book their place in the last-16 of the European Championship for only the second time as an independent nation with a game to spare. There is the potential for all four teams in the group to go into the final round of fixtures with a win each, with favourites Belgium looking to bounce back from their shock opening loss to Slovakia when they battle a Romania side who thrashed Ukraine in Cologne on Saturday night.
Ukraine then face the Belgians in Stuttgart on Wednesday evening, while at the same time Slovakia and Romania go head to head in Frankfurt. We could yet be set for a thrilling conclusion to a group that on paper did not look to promise too many fireworks before the tournament. Follow Slovakia vs Ukraine reaction live below!

Full-time
Group E is blown wide open!
A stunning second-half turnaround from Ukraine to give them lift off at this tournament and keep their knockout qualification hopes well and truly alive.
There are now three teams level on three points before Belgium take on Romania in Cologne tomorrow night.
Ukraine then meet the Belgians in Stuttgart on Wednesday night, while Slovakia are back in Frankfurt next to take on Romania.
Slovakia will very much hope they do not endure a repeat of their fortunes at the delayed Euro 2020 finals three years ago, when they won their opening group game against Poland before subsequent defeats by Sweden and Spain sent them home early.
Another victory here would have sent them through - instead it’s going to be very nervy stuff during the last round of games.
Euro 2024 just continues to deliver on a daily basis!

There were no changes from either manager at half-time, by the way.
But surely we’ll see some early alterations from Rebrov if his team continue to trail.

Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine

Half-time
Just as against Belgium in Frankurt on Monday, Slovakia lead at half-time in Group E thanks to an early goal from Ivan Schranz.
They are just about good value for it after a comfortable start and forcing a few strong saves from Anatoliy Trubin.
But there was a response from Ukraine there and they will feel this game is still there for them at only 1-0.
All set up for a fascinating second half.
Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine
14:48 , George Flood
45 mins: Into one minute of added time at the end of what has been a very watchable first half in Dusseldorf.

Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine
14:46 , George Flood
42 mins: Yarmolenko is very fortunate to earn a free-kick off Hancko in a very useful position for Ukraine.

36 mins: Slovakia are under huge pressure at the moment, with Ukraine finally into their rhythm.
A ball over the top of Vavro sends in Mudryk, who is denied by some confident goalkeeping by Dubravka at close quarters.
The Ukraine fans are really making some noise, willing their team back into this.
Slovakia need to re-assert some control before the break.
Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine
14:38 , George Flood
33 mins: All of a sudden Slovakia have gone from entirely comfortable to looking somewhat ragged at the back, leading to Tymchyk dragging a low shot against the post after a nice little backheel from Dovbyk to meet a smart Yarmolenko pass inside the box.
Replays show Dubravka got a hand to that - what a save!
Zinchenko now has an effort blocked as Slovakia earn a free-kick.
Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine

Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine
14:33 , George Flood
29 mins: Ukraine are finally sustaining some pressure now as a first corner is headed behind at the front post, leading to another.
Mudryk sees one cross returned to him and then has a follow-up shot deflected, with the loose ball skewed well wide by Yarmolenko.
Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine
14:32 , George Flood
28 mins: Better from Ukraine and Dovbyk, who shows great feet inside the box to beat Slovakia captain Skriniar but is foiled by a tremendous last-gasp block from Pekarik.
Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine
14:30 , George Flood
25 mins: This is desperately poor from Ukraine again.
They cannot hold the ball for more than a few seconds, being pressed relentlessly by an energetic and well-disciplined Slovakia outfit.
Lobotka and Duda are running the show in midfield so far, with real threats from Schranz and Haraslin out wide.
Hancko and Pekarik getting forward plenty too from full-back.
Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine

Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine
14:27 , George Flood
20 mins: Not much of a response to that early setback so far from Ukraine, who are seeing much more of the ball but doing preciously little with it at the moment.
Mudryk slaloms his way forward before unleashing a dreadful shot that flies into the stands.
That was never, ever troubling Dubravka.
GOAL! Slovakia 1-0 Ukraine | Ivan Schranz 17'
14:25 , George Flood
17 mins: That had been coming and it’s Schranz again!
Brilliant work following a throw-in from Haraslin, who gets in the cross for the unmarked Schranz to head down and in at the back post.
Fully deserved for Slovakia, who have started so well here.
Ukraine look in real trouble now.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:19 , George Flood

Up steps Hancko... beaten away by Trubin!
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:17 , George Flood
13 mins: Ukraine’s turn to soar forward now, piecing together a decent counter-attack that almost bears fruit.
A tame shot from Brazhko is then easily held by Newcastle’s Dubravka in the Slovakia goal.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:16 , George Flood
13 mins: Duda now fires wide with Slovakia clearly in the mood to build on that shock upset of Group E favourites Belgium.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:15 , George Flood
11 mins: Two vital saves from Trubin keep Slovakia at bay!
Ukraine are suddenly under all sorts of pressure, with Belgium-slayer Schranz denied at point-blank range at the back post after some poor defending from Matviyenko.
Just moments earlier, Trubin had stuck out a foot to keep out a low drive from Haraslin.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:12 , George Flood
9 mins: A nice, pacey counter-attack from Ukraine after a Slovakia move breaks down, but skipper Yarmolenko’s final pass is too heavy and runs through to Dubravka.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:11 , George Flood
6 mins: Slovakia are posing a threat down their left-hand side again, Pekarik needing no second invitation to get forward and deliver a cross that is held by Ukraine goalkeeper Trubin.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:10 , George Flood
5 mins: Two different approaches on display there from Ukraine, who have so many noisy and passionate fans inside the Dusseldorf Arena this afternoon.
First they go long to Yarmolenko and the offside flag is raised, then Chelsea’s Mudryk helps them though midfield before LaLiga top scorer Dovbyk is penalised for a scrappy foul to halt their momentum.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:07 , George Flood
3 mins: Yarmolenko’s first contribution is sliding across the wet surface and scything down Haraslin to give a free-kick to Slovakia.
They have made the more positive start in Dusseldorf, seeing plenty of the ball and probing patiently.
Now they are denied by the offside flag as Ukraine look to get their foot on the ball and make something happen early on.
Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine
14:05 , George Flood
2 mins: A high-tempo start with possession for both sides, who are looking to get forward fast.
It’s all a bit hectic and untidy in possession.
Slovakia vs Ukraine

A familiar face for Premier League fans in the middle, with Michael Oliver today’s match referee.
Slovakia get us underway in this important Group E contest in rainy Dusseldorf after a minute’s applause in memory of former Uefa general secretary Gerhard Aigner, who died yesterday at the age of 80.
A change of kit for both sides this afternoon, with Slovakia in all blue and Ukraine back in all yellow.
Slovakia vs Ukraine
13:56 , George Flood
Here come the teams in Dusseldorf, where the rain has been falling ahead of kick-off.
Ukraine very well-supported in this city it seems.
Time for the national anthems, with each Ukraine player draped in the flag of their nation.
Rebrov makes big calls in bid for Ukraine improvement
13:45 , George Flood
So, some big calls from Serhiy Rebrov this afternoon as Ukraine desperately seek a response from that dreadful display in Munich on Monday.
He’s made a change in every department in a bid to give their campaign a much-needed spark.
Dropping Andriy Lunin will undoubtedly be the headline after he ended up playing an important role in Real Madrid’s Champions League and LaLiga-winning season following injuries to Thibaut Courtois and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
But those were some key errors against Romania and Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin is hardly a bad replacement.
Viktor Tsygankov also had a brilliant campaign alongside Artem Dovbyk at Spanish surprise package Girona, but makes way today for an icon of Ukrainian football in Andriy Yarmolenko.
Can the captain save the day?
Slovakia unchanged after Belgium upset
13:28 , George Flood
As expected, Slovakia are unchanged from their upset win over Belgium in Frankfurt on Monday.
Ondrej Duda is fine to start in midfield after being forced off late with cramp in the opener, while centre-back Denis Vavro shook off a knock to start earlier this week.
Monday’s match-winner Ivan Schranz is in attack alongside Robert Bozenik and Lukas Haraslin.
Ukraine drop Lunin as Rebrov makes four changes from Romania debacle
13:25 , George Flood
So Ukraine boss Serhiy Rebrov has indeed shuffled his pack, with Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin the headline dropping.
Also out are right-back Yukhym Konoplya, midfielder Taras Stepanenko and winger Viktor Tsygankov.
Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin starts between the posts instead, with Oleksandr Tymchyk on the right of defence and Volodymyr Brazhko brought into the middle.
In attack, Ukraine call on legend and captain Andriy Yarmolenko, the former West Ham forward poised to earn his 121st senior cap in Dusseldorf.

Atmosphere building in Dusseldorf
12:46 , George Flood
The atmosphere is building nicely in Dusseldorf, with around 75 minutes to go until kick-off in Group E.
Looks to be plenty of good camaraderie between the two fanbases, which is always great to see at a tournament where that hasn’t always been the case.
Calzona: Slovakia must stay humble... there is no reason to celebrate yet
12:28 , George Flood
Meanwhile, Slovakia - and former Napoli - boss Francesco Calzona has urged his team to stay humble, insisting there is nothing to celebrate yet despite that upset of Belgium.
He wants his side to remain focused in pursuit of further wins, with Slovakia having won their opening game of Euro 2020 against Poland before subsequent group defeats by Sweden and Spain sent them home early.
"Our greatest strength is humility,” Calzona said.
“We have to give 110 per cent because we're a small nation and we want to put a smile on the faces of our fans.
“The euphoria [after beating Belgium] lasted a few hours, but three points will definitely not be enough to go through.
“There is no reason to celebrate yet. We are fully focused on this match."
Rebrov: Ukraine will show more spirit and desire after Romania 'cold shower'
12:11 , George Flood
Serhiy Rebrov described Monday’s shock thrashing by Romania in Munich as a ‘cold shower’ and is demanding more spirit and desire from his side this afternoon.
However, he knows they are in for another tough challenge against a disciplined Slovakia team riding so high following that upset of group favourites Belgium.
"I've always considered Slovakia a strong team,” Rebrov said.
“They have players who play for good clubs.
“When I analysed them, I saw they were very disciplined.
“They won against Belgium in great style. We have lots of respect for them.
“After our loss [against Romania], we analysed the match. Everyone understands their mistakes.
“They know they must go on the pitch with more spirit and desire.
“I really expect a good game because the last one was a cold shower."
Predicted lineups
12:00 , George Flood
Official team news from Dusseldorf should reach us in an hour or so, but here’s how Standard Sport sees both teams lining up for this afternoon’s crucial early contest in Group E.
It would be an unchanged side from Slovakia, with Ukraine making one alteration in the midfield with Ruslan Malinovskyi replacing Mykola Shaparenko.
Predicted Slovakia XI: Dubravka; Pekarik, Vavro, Skriniar, Hancko; Kucka, Lobotka, Duda; Schranz, Bosenik, Haraslin
Predicted Ukraine XI: Lunin; Konoplya, Zarbarnyi, Matviyenko, Zinchenko; Malinovskyi, Stepanenko, Sudakov; Tsygankov, Dovbyk, Mudryk
Slovakia vs Ukraine prediction
11:49 , George Flood
A disastrous start threatens to derail Ukraine’s campaign but Slovakia were a little fortunate to beat Belgium.
If that luck doesn’t hold, they lack the firepower to be considered favourites here.
Ukraine to win, 1-0.
Ukraine team news
11:45 , George Flood
The team news picture seems decidedly more unclear for Ukraine, who simply cannot afford another defeat in Dusseldorf this afternoon if they are to have any realistic hope of reaching the last-16.
Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko remains doubtful, having missed the Romania debacle in Munich on Monday with an injury sustained in a pre-tournament warm-up friendly against Moldova earlier this month.
That meant Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko - who usually plays in midfield for his country - had to pivot to left-back, where he is expected to remain this afternoon.
Head coach Serhiy Rebrov has to decide whether to stick with a strong-looking XI on paper that totally flopped in shock fashion in the opening game, or else make some changes in a bid to freshen things up.
Genoa midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi and Valencia striker Roman Yaremchuk are among those who could come in if ex-Tottenham and West Ham frontman Rebrov seeks a new approach.
Slovakia team news
11:37 , George Flood
It certainly would not be a surprise to see Slovakia boss Francesco Calzona name an unchanged team today, with no new injury worries believed to have been picked up in that memorable upset of Belgium in Frankfurt on Monday.
Experienced midfielder Ondrej Duda went off late on with cramp in that game, but is expected to be fit to retain his starting berth this afternoon.
Monday’s match-winner Ivan Schranz is one yellow card away from a suspension now, but that surely won’t be factoring into selection decisions at this early stage of the tournament.

Good morning and welcome to day eight at Euro 2024.
We have another three games on the schedule for you to enjoy today, with Group D taking centre stage later on as Poland take on Austria in Berlin before the heavyweight showdown between France and the Netherlands in Leipzig.
But first our attentions turn to Dusseldorf and Group E, where Slovakia will look to seal their place in the last-16 after stunning fancied Belgium in the tournament’s first and only real upset so far in Frankfurt on Monday.
Next they face a Ukraine side desperate to avoid another loss that would surely signal an early exit, having been surprisingly brushed aside 3-0 by Romania in Munich in their opening fixture.
Kick-off at the Dusseldorf Arena is at 2pm BST. Stay tuned for match build-up plus all the latest team news and live updates.
