Football fans want answers as to why a woman was seen ripping down Gareth Southgate’s tube station sign.

The England manager was honoured by Transport For London for taking the Three Lions to the World Cup semi-finals.

Southgate tube station in north London was re-named in his honour – but one public transport user had clearly seen enough.

A video has emerged showing a women peeling off the sign and laughing.

England fans want to know why, while TFL have confirmed she was not member of their staff and they did not grant permission for the removal to take place.

A Tfl spokesperson told The Sun: “This was not a TfL member of staff and TfL did not grant permission for this to happen.”

The re-naming was only a temporary measure to pay tribute to the manager’s achievements in Russia.

TfL’s London Underground managing director Mark Wild said of the renaming: “The great performance of the England team this summer brought people of all ages together in celebration.

“We’re delighted to be able to show our appreciation to Gareth and the team by renaming the station in his honour.”

Fans have taken Southgate to their hearts with special songs created, including a revamp of Atomic Kitten’s Whole Again hit.

There was also a day dedicated to Southgate’s touchline attire, with waistcoat Wednesday taking off across the country.

He paid tribute to the support back home saying the backing gave the players extra belief as they made the semi-finals for the first time in 28 years.
