Thierry Henry named Montreal Impact head coach in MLS
Thierry Henry has been named as the new manager for Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact.
The former French international, who spent the end of his playing career in the MLS for New York Red Bulls, has signed on an initial two-year deal with the option of a third.
This will be Henry’s first head coach position after he was sacked from former club Monaco after just 20 games, following a poor start to the 2018/19 Ligue 1 season.
Montreal’s CEO Kevin Gilmore described Henry as a ‘legend of the game’, singing his praises on the club website announcing the appointment:
"Henry will bring a new energy to our club. He shares our vision to elevate this club and will help us achieve our goals on and off the field.
He is a competitor and a leader who has proven himself at the highest level throughout his career. He now brings these qualities with him to Montreal, a place he wants to be."

Former Arsenal forward Henry, 42, retired from playing in December 2014 and joined Belgium’s coaching staff in 2016 before his ill-fated stint in charge of Monaco two years later, the club where he made his professional debut.
The World Cup winner is confident a return to the MLS in management will be more successful than his time in Ligue 1.
"It's a league I know well, in which I had some very nice moments," he said in a Montreal Impact statement.
"To be in Quebec, in Montreal, which has an enormous multicultural heritage, it's extraordinary. I've always kept an eye on the club and now I'm here."
Montreal have been playing in the MLS since 2012, but have failed to qualify for the play-offs in the past three seasons.
