Timo Werner: Ange Postecoglou call key as Tottenham aim for double signing before Manchester United clash
Tottenham are expected to complete the signing of Timo Werner this week after positive talks between the former Chelsea forward and Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs have agreed to sign Werner on a six-month loan deal from RB Leipzig, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season for around €15-20million.
Werner is set to complete a medical and be in the squad for Sunday's game at Manchester United, with Spurs to cover his wages in full for the duration of the loan.
United also expressed an interest in the versatile 27-year-old but Werner was won over during a call with Spurs head coach Postecoglou, who has convinced him that he can revitalise his career back in London.

Werner is widely considered a flop at Chelsea, despite winning the 2021 Champions League, after joining the Blues in a £45m move from Leipzig a year earlier. He scored 23 goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea, and returned to his former club in 2022.
Werner has struggled for minutes with the Bundesliga side this season, scoring twice in just 14 appearances and he was left out of the squad for their friendly against St Gallen at the weekend after opening talks with Spurs.
Leipzig boss Marco Rose has since confirmed the forward is motivated to move by a desire to force his way back into the Germany squad for this summer's European Championship on home soil.
Werner has 57 Germany caps but last played for his country in a friendly defeat by Belgium in March 2023.
He is expected to provide cover across the Spurs front line, with Heung-min Son potentially away until mid-February at the Asian Cup with South Korea, injured Ivan Perisic not expected to play for the club again this season and Manor Solomon finally nearing a return having been sidelined since October.
Tottenham are continuing talks with Genoa over centre-back Radu Dragusin and also hope to complete a deal for the Romanian international this week.
Spurs are understood to have had a verbal offer of just under €25m rejected by the Italian club, who want close to €30m for the 21-year-old.
Dragusin has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Genoa's Serie A rivals Napoli, who made a players-plus-cash offer at the end of last week, but has made it plain that he wants to move to the Premier League.
Postecoglou has made signing a new centre-back a priority this month and previously called for the club to do their transfer business as early as possible.
Having Dragusin available for the visit to Old Trafford would be a boost for the head coach, with both Cristian Romero and Ben Davies, who has been filling in at the heart of defence, considered major doubts with hamstring injuries.
Meanwhile, Eric Dier is hopeful of completing a dream move to Bayern this week after agreeing personal terms with the Bundesliga champions.
Dier is out of contract in the summer and free to talk to overseas clubs, although Bayern would need to agree a nominal fee with Spurs for the 29-year-old to seal the transfer this month.
Dier is one of a few options for Bayern to strengthen their defence and is hoping for a positive update from the Bavarians.
Full-backs Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon have been sent back to Spurs from loans at Leeds and Manchester United, respectively, although neither is expected to be in contention for Postecoglou's side while the transfer window is open.
If Spence or Reguilon feature for Spurs, they would be unable to play for a third club this season which would scupper another transfer this month.
