Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou reveals latest on new signings amid Randal Kolo Muani admission
Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Tottenham were interested in Juventus-bound forward Randal Kolo Muani, but says he is "as confident as you can be" of adding to his squad this month.
Kolo Muani is set to join Juve on loan from Paris Saint-Germain after interest from a number of Premier League clubs, but Postecoglou insisted Spurs did not reach an advanced stage of interest in the France international.
The head coach, whose side face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, has repeatedly called for help for his stretched squad in January, with a new forward the priority – particularly after a scan revealed that on-loan Timo Werner will face up to a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Postecoglou insisted that Kolo Muani's impending move to Italy was not a setback for Spurs but acknowledged he was one of a numbers of players of interest.
Asked if Spurs were pursuing the 26-year-old, Postecoglou said: "We've been interested and were looking at a number of players. But did we get to the point where we thought he was coming to us? No.
"The club is working as hard as it can and that's all you can ask for. January's not an easy month but I do know a lot of work is being done behind the scenes to try to get some reinforcements in.
"[I'm] as confident as you can be. It is tricky, as all clubs are finding. And I guess traditionally it ramps up in that final week so we're approaching there for all clubs.
“It's even trickier in January because once you try to acquire a player, the club wants to replace that player. So there's all sorts of logistics involved. We'll see what's available and what help we can get."
Postecoglou insisted he was not frustrated at the pace of the club's transfer business, despite Spurs only adding teenage forward Min-hyeok Yang, 18, and goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to his squad so far this month.
"It's not frustration," he added. "It would be frustrating and a disappointment if the club weren't working hard, but they are. It's an easy word to say but I know how hard the club have been working behind the scenes to get something done, it's not easy. You need agreement from three different parties.
"Sometimes, when you're in our situation, other clubs realise that and try to make the most of it. That's why I was delighted to get Toni [Kinsky] in fairly early. That's helped us for sure, but it's not for the want of trying so I accept that and I'm not disappointed or frustrated. I'm actually pleased at how hard the club is working."
But the Australian suggested his squad would struggle to cope with the schedule in the second half of the season without reinforcements, even when injured players return to fitness.
"It is constantly a moving kind of picture with these things," he said. "If everyone comes back and stays back and fit, we have players who have missed a fair bit of football, guys like Wilson [Odobert] who has hardly played. Is he going to come back and hit the ground running?
"You just don’t know with these things. [Cristian] Romero, [Micky] van de Ven, Destiny [Udogie] have all had significant disruptions, [Rodrigo] Bentancur has been in and out, lost Timo for a bit now. There are all these kind of moving parts where you just don’t know.
"Where we sit right now, I think we all know we need some reinforcements and it’s about trying to make that happen if we can in this window."
