New Tottenham stadium time-lapse video charts £1bn project from 2016 to completion

Construction work first started on Tottenham's new £1bn stadium back in 2016 and the club are finally preparing to raise the curtain on a new era back in north London.

Despite several delays, the 62,062-seat venue will open its doors to paying supporters for the first time when Southampton U18s face Spurs in front of a reduced crowd of around 30,000 for Sunday's first test event.

There will be a ‘Legends’ fixture against Inter Milan six days later to ensure the stadium receives the mandatory safety certificate — before the official opener against Crystal Palace on April 3.

And Spurs have released a brilliant time-lapse video capturing the progress of the three-year build ahead of their move back across the capital into the completed venue.

The stunning ground has been described as "one of the best in the world" and includes a number of state-of-the-art features. But it retains some of the charm of Tottenham's former White Hart Lane home, which was situated on the same spot.

Fans will notice a number of heritage plaques to the club's former home, including the Lane Centre Spot, the mark where all 2,533 competitive matches at the old White Hart Lane kicked off. It can be found within the South Atrium, the entrance to the single-tier South Stand.

Other significant points of interest will be marked over the coming weeks, including the Park Lane penalty spot, the South West corner and the North West and North East corner points of the old Lane, which will literally be beneath the feet of some fans in the new South Stand.

Meanwhile, The Golden Cockerel, situated on the roof of the South Stand, has been made with a 3D scan of the original that first appeared at the Lane in 1909. It's therefore got every mark from the original, including a dent made by Paul Gascoigne with an air-rifle.
