Transfer news LIVE! Arsenal in Osimhen talks; Chelsea want David; Man Utd eye Kubo; Solanke to Tottenham

Transfer news LIVE!

It's the penultimate day of the January transfer window as clubs strive to complete some final business before Thursday night's 11pm GMT deadline. Arsenal are rumoured to have opened talks over a blockbuster deal for Victor Osimhen in their pursuit of a new striker, amid ongoing links to the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Callum Wilson as Lino Sousa prepares to join Aston Villa.

Chelsea are likewise said to have launched a move for Lille's Jonathan David, while they are dealing with plenty of late interest in Armando Broja as Andrey Santos goes back out on loan. However, neither Arsenal nor Chelsea will be signing Karim Benzema this month as things stand. Manchester United are looking at the likes of Takefusa Kubo and Gleison Bremer, with Paris Saint-Germain reigniting their interest in Marcus Rashford as Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo both aim for new Old Trafford exits.

Tottenham still want to sign Conor Gallagher as they eye a similar late push for Dominic Solanke and talk to Brighton over Bryan Gil, with Liverpool chasing Atalanta's Ederson and Tosin Adarabioyo as West Ham work to sign ex-Celtic winger Jota as they also look to offload Said Benrahma and Maxwel Cornet and maybe Pablo Fornals. Spurs wait for Bergvall decision

19:44 , Matt Verri

Tottenham remain in the race for £17million-rated Djurgardens youngster Lucas Bergvall, who is deciding between the north Londoners and Barcelona on Wednesday night, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

The 17-year-old midfielder visited Spurs training ground on Monday but is now in Barcelona before making his final decision.

It’s unclear which club the one-time Sweden international will pick, as he makes his final decision before completing a move on deadline day tomorrow.

Bergvall has followed a similar pathway to Spurs winger Dejan Kulusevski, spending his youth career with IF Brommapojkarna before moving to Djurgardens, a bigger club in the capital of Stockholm.

Exclusive: Brentford reject Onyeka bids

19:05 , Matt Verri

Brentford have rejected bids from Girona and Reims for midfielder Frank Onyeka, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

The 26-year-old is producing impressive performances at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, which is driving recent transfer interest.

Girona, part of Manchester City's multi-club network City Football Group, had made a loan bid, which included an option to buy that could rise to £17million inclusive of performance-related add-ons.

Reims had made a similar loan offer, which could rise to £20m if performance-related add-ons are met.

Fulham and Everton have also expressed an interest but Brentford are unwilling to strengthen a Premier League rival in the loan market.

However, the Bees feel that Onyeka can help Thomas Frank's team in the run-in this season and potentially attract better offers in the future.

Onyeka is now unlikely to move unless a significantly improved offer arrives before the transfer deadline tomorrow night.

His Nigeria team next face Angola in the quarter-final of Africa's showpiece competition and are among the favourites to win it.

West Ham and Newcastle are among the other clubs to be recently linked with one-cap England international Solanke, though the Cherries are not anticipating any late January exit for their 14-goal top scorer, who has netted 10 more times than any other Bournemouth player so far this season.

"I know nothing about this. I have no news about this," head coach Iraola said of the latest Solanke links at a press conference held before Bournemouth's Premier League trip to West Ham on transfer deadline day.

 (REUTERS)

"It's the same way I told you in the summer, I don’t expect anything to happen, with Dom especially."

On the prospects of Bournemouth making any signings of their own before Thursday night, Iraola said: "I have no news. I don’t know the chances [of transfers]. We still have 40 hours in the market [before the deadline].

"It's an uncomfortable situation, we have a match tomorrow.

"I'm not looking at the deals, I'm not looking at that side.

"Right now in my mind, it's only West Ham. Usually more people are involved in the club looking at the rest."

The 21-year-old has played just eight minutes of football for PSG this season and has taken a pay cut to join Frankfurt, who first tried to sign him in the summer.

Palace, West Ham, Brentford and Nottingham Forest all made approaches last summer, while Wolves contacted PSG earlier this month to try and make a loan deal work.

Newcastle believed they had twice agreed a deal to sign Ekitike in 2022, but the Frenchman instead went on a season-long loan to PSG. That deal became permanent in the summer, with a transfer fee of £30m paid to his former club Reims.

"We have one of the thinnest squads in the League, that's for sure," said the Spaniard. "And when you talk about the numbers, especially in certain areas, we are really thin.

"It wasn't possible [to do any January deals]. And now we didn't have the capacity to improve the team in the way that we think we want to improve it, so we decided not to do something yet."

Tottenham seriously consider new Conor Gallagher bid

Tuesday 30 January 2024 06:28 , Alex Young

Tottenham are ready to reignite their interest in Conor Gallagher in the final days of the January transfer window.

According to The Times, Spurs are seriously considering another attempt at luring the midfielder across London with the Blues ready to cash in. A £50million price tag was too much for Spurs in the summer, so it remains to be seen what they are prepared to spend five months later.

Gallagher has captained Chelsea many times so far this term with the likes of Reece James and Ben Chilwell sidelined for weeks on end, but Fabrizio Romano believes Spurs have a "very good chance" of signing the England international.

He told GiveMeSport: "If Tottenham go there and put big money on the table, they still have a very good chance to sign Gallagher. It’s not about the timing, but it is about the money. At the moment, Tottenham are not at that stage.

"Even if we had rumours at the end of December about negotiations between Chelsea and Tottenham for Gallagher, from what I heard, the last contact between the two clubs was in August 2023, when Tottenham tried to make it happen in the final days of the summer window. The two clubs have never spoken again about Gallagher. So, I still think this is not easy for the final days."
