Transfer news LIVE! Arsenal Merino breakthrough; Sterling Chelsea bombshell; Spurs medical today; Man Utd
Transfer news LIVE!
Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Mikel Merino after reportedly reaching an agreement with Real Sociedad for Mikel Arteta's dream midfield recruit. After a first bid was rejected, another closer to £30million appears to have been enough to make progress with a deal. Sociedad have now confirmed the talks after leaving Merino out of their squad for today’s LaLiga opener versus Rayo Vallecano.
Chelsea are also hard at work on summer deals, as they look to finally resolve Conor Gallagher's future with further talks with Atletico Madrid over Joao Felix, who is set to sign for just £34m. A move for Victor Osimhen has not been ruled out but PSG could be back in the chase after an injury to Goncalo Ramos. An audacious move for Jadon Sancho has also been touted, while Raheem Sterling has dropped a bombshell statement on his future after being left out of the squad to face Man City. Ivan Toney is another man set to leave west London after Brentford dropped him from their squad.
Elsewhere, Manchester United have been given further encouragement in their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte, with current club Paris Saint-Germain looking to sign his replacement. Atalanta’s Ederson is a new target, having been linked with Liverpool. Tottenham have signed Wilson Odobert in a shock move and have agreed to sell Oliver Skipp to Leicester ahead of a medical today. Toney was left out of the Bees’ squad for their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday amid uncertainty over his future. Standard Sport understands Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli have made an offer for Toney.
Asked whether Toney has played his final game for the club, Frank replied: “That we never know. I’ve been in football long enough that you never know what’s going to happen in the future. No, I don’t think [it will end sourly]. Ivan is committed and has been for four years.
“It [a deal] is not close, but we hope it will be. I will always miss Ivan as a player and as a person, but in terms of all the questions you ask about him, I won’t [miss those], no.”

20:13 , Alex Young
Enzo Maresca has insisted he wants Raheem Sterling to stay at Chelsea but admitted the Blues will be forced to sell players to reduce their bloated squad.
“The only thing I can say again is it’s a technical decision, it’s nothing more than that,” said Maresca.
“I want Raheem Sterling, but I want all the 30 players that we have, but there’s no space for all of them. So, for some of them, they have to leave.”

Raheem Sterling 'seeks clarity' over Chelsea future
15:23 , Marc Mayo
Chelsea face Man City shortly and the starting line-ups are out, with no Raheem Sterling in the Blues squad.
That has prompted what looks like a pre-prepared statement on behalf of the winger’s camp to the Daily Mail.
It reads: “Raheem Sterling is contracted to Chelsea Football Club for the next three years. He returned to England two weeks early to conduct individual training, and has had a positive pre-season under the new coach, who he has developed a good working relationship with.
“He is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level for Chelsea FC and the fans, who he holds in high regard, and given his inclusion in official club pre-match material this week, our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend’s fixture in some capacity.
“As a camp, we have always had positive dialogue with, and assurance from, Chelsea FC in relation to Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation.
“Until then, we will continue to support Raheem’s desire to start the new season positively.”

AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw has also been named as a Newcastle target.

14:04
Napoli will focus their efforts on signing Romelu Lukaku once the signing of David Neres is completed.
The Benfica winger is set to join imminently ahead of a medical on Monday for a £25m-plus-bonuses switch.
TMW claim Napoli will then turn their attention to Chelsea’s Lukaku but a fee is not yet agreed between the two clubs.
One big issue is Victor Osimhen, who must first be sold to afford Lukaku.
Ivan Toney absence explained
13:15 , Marc Mayo
Ivan Toney was left out of Brentford’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Sunday due to the transfer interest in the England striker.
The likes of Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli are hoping to sign Toney this summer.
Standard Sport understands Toney wanted to play against Palace but was told within 24 hours of the game that he wouldn’t be involved.
Speaking ahead of the match, Frank said: “There's some transfer interest and because of all that we decided not to involve him today. Ivan is a top player; he's been fantastic for us over four years but we also showed, last year especially, that we can win without him.”

Alisson is tipped to move to Saudi Arabia next summer, at which point Mamardashvili will officially sign for Liverpool.
The plan is reportedly for him to join Bournemouth on loan for £4m as a Valencia player, then transfer to Liverpool for around £30m in 2025.

Ilkay Gundogan demand could impact Man Utd midfield hunt
09:45 , Marc Mayo
Manchester United’s midfielder search could be impacted by old Man City star Ilkay Gundogan.
Reports in Spain claim the German has told Barcelona that he wants to leave this summer.
Such an exit could lead to Barcelona being even more determined to keep Frenkie de Jong, who has been named as a long-term target for United and Erik ten Hag.
Gundogan missed last night’s win over Valencia due to a minor injury and Hansi Flick has insisted he wants to keep the player amid the speculation.
He said: “I appreciate what kind of player he is and what he is like as a person. I've talked to him a lot, but it's something between me and him, we have a good relationship. I know him well.
“I have the feeling that he will stay.”
New factor in Chelsea's Victor Osimhen pursuit
08:34 , Marc Mayo
PSG are contending with a serious ankle injury to Goncalo Ramos that could push them back into the race for Victor Osimhen.
The French side reportedly had bids for the Nigerian knocked back earlier in the summer but Ramos requiring surgery, plus the earlier loss of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, could force them into the market.
Both the Italian and French media expect fresh interest in Osimhen despite yesterday’s deal to sign winger Desire Doue.
Osimhen is said to consider PSG his ideal destination amid Chelsea’s possible swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku.
Arsenal's Mikel Merino breakthrough confirmed
08:03
Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil says it was the “best decision” to leave Mikel Merino out of the squad for Sunday’s game with Rayo Vallecano as he is in talks over a move to Arsenal.
The Gunners want to sign a midfielder before the transfer window closes later this month and have identified Merino as their preferred target.
Talks are underway between Arsenal and Sociedad, with The Times reporting in the week that a £29.8m agreement is near.
Merino has been training as normal this week, but he has been left out of the Sociedad squad for their La Liga opener on Sunday.
“We worked with the idea that we would count on him, but I decided to leave him out of the squad,” Alguacil told reporters in Spain.
Djed Spence set for Spurs second chance
Saturday 17 August 2024 23:08 , George Flood
Ange Postecoglou believes Djed Spence will add depth to Tottenham's squad this season and says there are "absolutely zero issues" with the defender's attitude, writes Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick.
Spence spent last season on loan at Leeds and then Italian club Genoa after failing to win over Postecoglou a year ago, but the manager has given the 24-year-old a fresh chance this summer.
Spence has caught the eye in pre-season, mostly filling in at left-back, and Emerson Royal's move to AC Milan and Tottenham's shortage of homegrown players have opened the door for him to be an important squad player in the coming campaign.
“With Djed, I had an open mind. I certainly think the kind of characteristics he has would fit into our football," Postecoglou said ahead of Spurs' opening Premier League game away at newly-promoted Leicester on Monday night.

Marc Guehi to Newcastle update from Eddie Howe
Saturday 17 August 2024 21:18 , George Flood
Eddie Howe was again remaining tight-lipped on Newcastle’s dogged pursuit of a deal for Marc Guehi after they kicked off the latest Premier League season with a 1-0 win over newly-promoted Southampton at St James’ Park earlier today, despite the first-half dismissal of Fabian Schar.
Crystal Palace are believed to be rejecting a fourth bid from the Magpies for their prized defensive asset, whom they are said to value at around the £70m mark.
Howe did say: “The conditions have to be right for us.
“We can’t do something that goes against the longer-term good of the football club.
“We will try to make the right decision.”
Unai Emery wants Aston Villa stay for match-winner Jhon Duran
Saturday 17 August 2024 21:14 , George Flood
There will be plenty more transfer speculation coming regarding the future of Jhon Duran, a former Chelsea target who came back to haunt another club that tried to sign him this summer as he came off the bench to make it a winning start to the season for Aston Villa away at West Ham.
The Colombian striker - who was filmed making a Hammers gesture with his arms during an Instagram live last month amid those West Ham links - celebrated his goal at the London Stadium by making it clear to the travelling fans that he was going nowhere.
But is that really the case?
"We believe in him and his potential,” said Villa boss Unai Emery.
"We are open to working with him like he did today, helping the team, being available when we need him and today he was fantastic.
"With Watkins not feeling 100 per cent we prepared the plan for today to use both players over 90 minutes.
"Always I am very committed with him to get the best out of him as a player and even as a person. Some mistakes we have to accept and of course not repeat it.
“At the beginning I wanted him here and nothing changed after the match today.
"We were before, with every player, open in case a big offer comes in, and one of those players is him.
“But we know his potential and we know if he is leaving the offer is good for the club. But I don't want him to leave."

The Hammers are yet to enter talks with PSG, but Standard Sport understands they are considering an opening transfer bid.
Soler scored for Spain at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has made 14 appearances for his country but spent much of last season on the bench for PSG as he made more substitute appearances than starts.
The 27-year-old central midfielder, who can also play on the right, joined them in 2022 from his boyhood club Valencia. Reports in Spain have also linked Soler with a move to Real Sociedad, as a potential replacement for Arsenal target Mikel Merino.

Saturday 17 August 2024 08:24 , Alex Young
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has told Ben Chilwell it would be left he leaves the club this summer.
The 27-year-old is struggling for playing time in a crowded Chelsea squad, falling down the pecking order after Marc Cucurella impressed at the end of last season.
"Chilly (Chilwell) has not been training for the last few days because he has been ill," Maresca told reporters on Friday.
"It's quite clear, I love the way he is but the problem is that he struggles with us a little bit to find his best position.
"This morning we had 22 players training, and if you ask all of them they will say they want to play against City on Sunday but that is impossible.
"When they train every day and do not get any minutes, it is not good for them or for me, (as) I need to make a decision. It is probably better to leave and get minutes (elsewhere). The transfer window is open so we'll see what happens."

Chelsea handed deadline to complete Joao Felix deal
Saturday 17 August 2024 07:41 , Alex Young

New talks with Atletico have been ongoing this week, with Chelsea looking to strike a permanent deal for Felix worth around £40m.
The LaLiga side need the move to go through to complete their own £33m switch for England midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has now returned to London as his frustrating waiting game continues.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's match, Frank said, "The fresh news is he (Toney) trained with a fresh smile, looked sharp, good attitude, he's available for Sunday.
"Very much (satisfied to have Toney). As long as I have Ivan I am very happy and that's hopefully for another year because he's a fantastic player. We've had four great years together and we're hoping for another year.
"We know there's speculation and back and forths but let's just enjoy the moment and let's look one day ahead and see what happens.

Palace chairman Steve Parish said earlier in the week that Newcastle would need to pay "superstar money" and Eagles boss Oliver Glasner confirmed Guehi remains in contention to play in Sunday's match against the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium.
"Well, yes, Marc trained today with us, we talked together," Glasner told a press conference.
"I have no other information, I have to look at my bank account to see if something has come in but it doesn't look like (it) so we plan (for the game) with Marc.

Chelsea have emerged as surprise contenders to sign Jadon Sancho.

The deal is said to be an initial loan with an obligation to buy for an unspecified fee next summer, plus two Chelsea academy players heading in the opposite direction.
It would certainly be a shock and surely be curtains for Raheem Sterling’s Stamford Bridge career. Sancho also occupies similar areas to Joao Felix, who is the subject of talks for a move from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea's transfer wish amid Victor Osimhen and Joao Felix talks
Friday 16 August 2024 14:59 , Marc Mayo
Enzo Maresca has set out Chelsea’s transfer stall with a raft of incomings and outgoings likely before the deadline.
Questions over Joao Felix and Victor Osimhen have today been put to the Italian coach in his pre-game press conference.
“The only thing I can say, I have to say the same: They are not our players, so it's not correct to talk about a Napoli player or an Atletico Madrid player,” Maresca told reporters.
“The club knows exactly what I think and hopefully before the window shuts we can bring in some more players.”
Maresca admitted that some players are not currently training with the first team at Cobham in preparation for late window exits.
“We were in America [for pre-season] for 20 days with 28 or 29 players,” he said. “We have guys that are not involved and are training apart. At the moment, it is not difficult. If I start to think I have 43 players, it's probably not a good thing.”
On the issue of outgoings, Maresca insisted responsibility to secure such sales rests with co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.
“This question is for Paul and Laurence,” he said. “They are trying to find solutions for these type of players. I am not the guy in charge of finding solutions for young players, otherwise they have to pay me double.”

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said: "Conor is back. He is training apart. He is doing some medical tests and some training.
"He won't be involved in the game [against City]. At this moment, he is trying to find a solution with the club."

Another done deal for Ipswich!
Following the earlier £11m signing of Sammie Szmodics from Blackburn, the newly-promoted Tractor Boys have now also officially confirmed the arrival of Kalvin Phillips.
The England midfielder has moved to Portman Road on a season-long loan switch from Manchester City, looking to kick-start his career after a disastrous spell at West Ham in the second half of last season that ultimately cost him a place at Euro 2024.
Like Szmodics, Phillips is available to make a swift Ipswich debut against Liverpool on Saturday.

Eddie Howe sends Crystal Palace warning over Marc Guehi price
Friday 16 August 2024 13:34
Addressing reports of a fourth Newcastle bid for Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi earlier today, Eddie Howe warned that the Magpies would not be forced into paying over the odds for further new signings this month.
The Newcastle boss also insisted there was “nothing close” in terms of arrivals at St James’ Park before tomorrow’s visit of newly-promoted Southampton on Premier League opening weekend.
“Especially early on where there was very much a ‘Newcastle tax’ on any deal where when we would ring up, the price would double, so many times we were, ‘No, that’s not for us, we’re not going to go down that road where we feel we’re overpaying for players’,” Howe said.“That’s changed slightly because people have seen the dynamic, that we’re not going to pay silly fees for players, so I think now it’s returned more to normality.”
Arne Slot gives new Luis Diaz transfer update
Friday 16 August 2024 13:29 , George Flood
Arne Slot has offered a new update on the future of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz amid mounting transfer speculation concerning the Colombian.
Diaz has become a popular figure at Anfield since joining from Portuguese side Porto for £37m in January 2022, scoring 24 goals and registering 13 assists in 94 appearances across all competitions to date.
However, the 27-year-old’s future on Merseyside had recently become subject to doubt, with Barcelona heavily linked with a player who still has three years left to run on his current Liverpool deal.
Pep Guardiola hints at further Man City signings
Friday 16 August 2024 13:27 , George Flood
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has offered a cryptic response to the possibility of his club signing a new forward before the transfer window shuts.
Julian Alvarez’s exit to Atletico Madrid, Kalvin Phillips’ move to Ipswich and Oscar Bobb’s injury until the New Year have left City’s squad lighter compared to last season, although Savinho has arrived from Girona for £21mi.
Barcelona’s Pedri and Real Madrid winger Rodrygo have featured loosely in gossip columns related to Man City but Guardiola looks set to hand more prominent roles to youngsters such as James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly, who both started last weekend’s Community Shield victory.
One player who could make a return to Guardiola’s plans is Joao Cancelo, who is training with the first team after returning from a spell at Barcelona.
Why Tottenham signed Wilson Odobert in shock deal
Friday 16 August 2024 13:25 , George Flood
Tottenham's capture of Wilson Odobert from Burnley on Friday flew completely under the radar, a surprise transfer in an era when every detail of most deals is typically leaked and reported for days or weeks ahead of an announcement, writes Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick.
No sooner had news emerged of Spurs' interest in the 19-year-old winger, the club announced the the teenager had signed a five-year contract in a deal worth £25m plus a further £5m in potential add-ons.
Spurs' technical director Johan Lange likes to work in the shadows and here was a fine example of his discretion in practice.
Odobert, a France Under-21 international, is the fourth teenager to join Spurs this summer after Leeds' Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, who arrived in July after signing from Swedish club Djurgardens in January and South Korean Yang Min-hyuk, who will join up with the squad in the New Year.

The Reds are reportedly interested in the goalkeeper, who has previously been linked with Chelsea and Newcastle and impressed at the recent Euro 2024 with Georgia.

They want to get everything wrapped up and completed this weekend.
Man United target Manuel Ugarte omitted from PSG squad
Friday 16 August 2024 11:49 , George Flood
A boost for Manchester United?
There is no Manuel Ugarte in the Paris Saint-Germain squad tonight amid the latest links regarding a potential summer move to Old Trafford.
Luis Enrique’s reigning French champions kick off their latest Ligue 1 title defence with a trip to the Stade Oceane to face Le Havre.
PSG have named a 20-man squad for that opener, which does not include Ugarte.
However, it does contain West Ham target Carlos Soler and star new signing Joao Neves, also linked with the likes of Manchester United before swapping Benfica for PSG in a £50m deal earlier this month.
West Ham weigh up bid for Carlos Soler
Friday 16 August 2024 11:19 , George Flood
West Ham are interested in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler, reports Standard Sport’s Dom Smith.

Friday 16 August 2024 10:14 , George Flood
Arne Slot has addressed Liverpool’s failed pursuit of Martin Zubimendi this morning during a press conference held before his first competitive game in charge at newly-promoted Ipswich in the Premier League tomorrow.
"I've said many times already that our squad is really strong and it's not so easy to find players who can help us or improve the squad,” the Dutchman said.
"Zubimendi was one of them to be fair, but he decided not to come. We go forward with the ones we have.”
Marc Guehi to Newcastle latest
Friday 16 August 2024 09:35 , George Flood
Here’s the latest from Standard Sport’s Dom Smith on Newcastle refusing to give up on Marc Guehi...
Newcastle have lodged a fourth bid for Marc Guehi, but the offer still falls short of Crystal Palace’s £65m valuation.
Palace have been steadfast in sticking to their asking price for Guehi, recently rejecting Newcastle’s third offer which was worth £55m plus a further £5m in add-ons.
Despite failing to meet Palace’s demands, Newcastle are understood to be confident in brokering a deal for Guehi.
The bid was not immediately rejected and negotiations between Palace chairman Steve Parish and Paul Mitchell, Newcastle’s sporting director, are ongoing.
Man United approach Nottingham Forest over Danilo deal
Friday 16 August 2024 08:41 , George Flood
Manchester United are said to be interested in a deal for Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for reinforcements in the middle of the pitch and have so far failed to secure a deal for Manuel Ugarte at PSG.
According to TNT Sports, United have now joined AC Milan in lodging an enquiry over Danilo.
Forest are described as being open to the potential sale of the 23-year-old Brazilian, despite having only signed him from Palmeiras in a £16m deal last summer.
But they would apparently demand more than £34m for a player previously linked with Arsenal.
Newcastle submit fourth Marc Guehi bid
Friday 16 August 2024 08:16
Newcastle will not give up on their pursuit of Marc Guehi.
The Magpies have already failed with three bids so far this summer for the England defender, with the latest worth £55m up front plus a further £5m in add-ons dismissed by Crystal Palace earlier this week.
Now Newcastle have quickly returned with a fourth bid that is said to be closer to Palace’s minimum £65m valuation of Guehi, according to the Daily Mail.
Palace are said to be considering the latest offer and haven’t rebuffed it out of hand, with others having said they won’t accept less than £70m.
Tottenham target late summer swoop for Vanderson
Friday 16 August 2024 07:36 , George Flood
Tottenham are pondering a late summer swoop for Vanderson, reports suggest.
Spurs splashed the cash last week to sign striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for a cool £65m, having already brought in the likes of teenage trio Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Yang Min-hyuk so far in this transfer window.
But they may have one more key signing to go, with GiveMeSport reporting that they have not ruled out a late move for Monaco wing-back Vanderson.
Apparently there remain doubts over Djed Spence as a back-up option to Pedro Porro, with Emerson Royal having recently left for AC Milan in a deal worth £13m.
But Spurs face having to pay over £34m for Vanderson.
Man United search for new Manuel Ugarte solution
Friday 16 August 2024 07:16 , George Flood
Manchester United appear to remain intent on signing Manuel Ugarte before the summer transfer window closes for business in two weeks’ time.
The Red Devils have long since been in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the Uruguay international midfielder, who is allowed to leave the French capital just one year after completing a €60m move from Sporting Lisbon.
However, so far an agreement has yet to be reached, with United unwilling to pay PSG’s asking price of approximately £51m as the latter look to recoup what they paid last summer.
A potential swap deal involving Jadon Sancho now looks to be firmly off the table, while United - who could offload Scott McTominay to Napoli - continue to be linked with the likes of Burnley’s Sander Berge with another alternative in Youssouf Fofana seemingly on his way to AC Milan from Monaco.
According to Fabrizio Romano, they are still fully focused on Ugarte, who wants to move to Old Trafford and is eager for a solution to be reached as soon as possible.
Chelsea handed deadline to complete Joao Felix deal
Friday 16 August 2024 07:07 , George Flood
Chelsea may now have been set a deadline in order to complete the shock return of Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have turned to their former loanee as a potential new attacking solution having seen a £34.5m swoop for Atletico Madrid team-mate Samu Omorodion collapse at the 11th hour last weekend.
According to Spanish publication AS, Atletico want everything wrapped up with Felix and Gallagher by next Wednesday.
The clock is ticking!
Chelsea ready to make Victor Osimhen move
Friday 16 August 2024 07:00
Chelsea remain in discussions with Napoli over Victor Osimhen.
The Blues have been offered the Nigerian striker as the Serie A giants again seek a part-exchange deal that would see Romelu Lukaku reunited with former boss Antonio Conte back in Serie A.
According to the latest update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ready to move for Osimhen soon, having always still had an eye on signing him even with their moves for Atletico Madrid pair Samu Omorodion and Joao Felix.
However, he adds that the 25-year-old only wants a permanent move - not a loan - and will not lower his €11m-per-year salary.
Arsenal handed new Mikel Merino boost
Friday 16 August 2024 06:51 , George Flood
Arsenal are continuing talks over a deal for Mikel Merino.
The Gunners are now stepping up their chase for the Real Sociedad midfielder, having already seen one bid rejected after sporting director Edu personally travelled out to Spain in order to seal the signing.
The BBC report that discussions between the clubs are ongoing, while others claim that there is currently an £8.5m difference in their respective valuations of Merino, who is out of contract at Anoeta next summer and has already rejected the offer of an extension in a boost to Arsenal.
It is apparently deemed unlikely that Spain’s Euro 2024 winner will play any part for Sociedad this weekend as they open the new LaLiga season at home to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday evening.
That would surely be more good news for Arsenal.

The Magpies have seen multiple bids for Marc Guehi knocked back and will turn to the Chelsea man if they fail to sign Crystal Palace’s captain, so say TeamTALK.

It appears that wherever Guehi doesn’t go, Chalobah will end up!

Man Utd make Frenkie de Jong decision
Thursday 15 August 2024 19:58 , Marc Mayo
Manchester United will not make a renewed push to sign Frenkie de Jong this summer.
A new midfielder is known to be top of Erik ten Hag’s wishlist for the remainder of the transfer window with Manuel Ugarte of PSG linked.
Barcelona’s De Jong has also been tipped as a target despite Hansi Flick and the player wanting him to stay in Spain.
Metro report on United opting to look elsewhere, with Burnley’s Sander Berge named as an option for £30m.

Thursday 15 August 2024 19:20 , Marc Mayo

A £38m offer has been rebuffed by Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish journalist Ruben Uria, despite Felix being unwanted in the Spanish capital.

Felix is said to be keen on returning to the Blues, who want a striker.
Napoli offer Chelsea answer to Victor Osimhen-Romelu Lukaku question
Thursday 15 August 2024 18:50 , Marc Mayo

The Blues have been holding out for over £35m for the Belgian despite not wanting him and have rejected a £25.5m offer from the Serie A club.
Meanwhile, Napoli want to cash in on Osimhen and are coming to terms with the reality that nobody can afford his £109m release clause.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Napoli are weighing up offering a player-plus-cash solution to both players’ futures.
It would involve Chelsea paying £42m plus bonuses and Lukaku to seal Osimhen’s signature, although the Nigerian striker is yet to green-light a switch to west London amid his preference of joining PSG.

Erik ten Hag hints at Man Utd debuts for duo
Thursday 15 August 2024 16:58 , Marc Mayo
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that both Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are in the squad for tomorrow’s opener against Fulham.
Usually a right-back, Mazraoui has been pinned as a possible solution to United’s left-back woes with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both injured.
“We were looking and we can sort problems over the left side,” Ten Hag said. “For instance Licha Martinez and Diogo Dalot are capable of playing there.
“Mazraoui is an additional one who can fill the position as long as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia aren't in the team. They are different and I think it's quite difficult to put him under pressure, especially in English football, that can be very beneficial.”
Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell, Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton and Fenerbahce’s Ferdi Kadioglu have been linked as possible signings, although the latter is closing in a move to Brighton.
Although Ten Hag’s comments suggest a move for a new signing in the position is unlikely.
Lopetegui: Zouma talking to other teams
Thursday 15 August 2024 16:18 , Matt Verri
Julen Lopetegui has confirmed that Kurt Zouma is still in talks to leave West Ham, with Jarrod Bowen now having replaced the Frenchman as club captain.
Zouma recently looked set to join Al-Shabab FC of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but is believed to have failed his medical. He remains in the Middle East as he searches for a club willing to grant him his West Ham exit.
The 29-year-old centre-back joined the Hammers in 2021 from Chelsea, and has made more than 100 appearances since then. Earlier on Thursday, West Ham announced England international Bowen as their new permanent captain.
New boss Lopetegui said of Zouma: “Kurt is a fantastic person and a very good player. He is trying to choose his future. We are going to wait. It’s true that he is trying to talk to other teams right now.
“Let’s see what is going to happen. For sure, the team that has the opportunity to take him, they are going to be happy because he is a good player. I have big respect for Kurt.”
Sean Dyche makes Dominic Calvert-Lewin admission
Thursday 15 August 2024 15:44 , Matt Verri
Everton manager Sean Dyche has not ruled out the prospect of losing striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin before the end of the season.
The 27-year-old saw a potential move to Newcastle fall through in June and he has also been linked with Manchester United and West Ham, but with the window closing in a fortnight there have been no further solid offers.
Calvert-Lewin is in the final year of his contract and with the club's tight financial situation - they were deducted eight points last season for two breaches of profitability and sustainability rules - they can ill-afford to lose him for nothing next summer.
Asked what would happen if a decent offer came in, Dyche said: "That would be the challenge for the club - what level (of fee)? For any player, not just Dom.
"You saw Amadou [Onana] leaving us [for £50million to Aston Villa]. There was a level where they think: 'Right that's it, it's got to be done'. That is the current situation of the club. It's not just about the players mentioned, it's about any player.
"The club has got an outside picture and that's not something I can control. They do need to balance the finances better. We have done a lot of work with that since I've been here."
Marco Silva backs Emile Smith Rowe to deliver
Thursday 15 August 2024 14:58 , Matt Verri
Marco Silva says he will help Emile Smith Rowe return to his “best level” at Fulham.
Smith Rowe has joined Fulham from Arsenal for a club-record fee of £34million and hopes to revitalise his career at Craven Cottage after struggling with both fitness and form.
The midfielder is in line to make his Fulham debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Friday night and Silva said: “The main thing for me was to feel the desire from Emile to come to our club.
“That made me push and convince our board [to sign him]. It’s a statement for us to go for him.
“He’s a top, top talent, and we want to make him play at his best level again. If he plays at his best level, he’s going to be a great player for us.”

Chelsea and Napoli remain in Victor Osimhen talks
Thursday 15 August 2024 12:28 , Matt Verri
Napoli are working to strike a swap deal with Chelsea for Victor Osimhen and Romelu Lukaku.
The Serie A club want to sell Osimhen to Chelsea as part of a deal that would see Lukaku head in the other direction to link up with Antonio Conte.
Chelsea want £30million for Lukaku but Napoli have been trying to negotiate a lower fee. Nigeria star Osimhen has long since been a top striker target for Chelsea, but the Blues have been put off by his high price tag.
Napoli chiefs are now looking again at ways to broker a permanent sale of Osimhen to Chelsea after a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain failed to materialise.
Chelsea had been looking at the potential for a season-long loan with an option to buy Osimhen earlier in the window, but that prospect now appears remote.
Osimhen wants the stability of a permanent move and the ability to focus and commit fully to a new long-term cause. He is understood to remain open to a Chelsea switch.
Ipswich keen on Armando Broja
Thursday 15 August 2024 12:05 , Matt Verri

Chelsea are keen to sell Broja, rather than loaning him out again.

Thursday 15 August 2024 10:51 , Matt Verri
It has already been a busy summer at Old Trafford, but Manchester United hope to strengthen further in the next couple of weeks.
ESPN report that a new midfielder is high on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist, but interest in PSG’s Manuel Ugarte and Burnley’s Sander Berge has cooled due to valuation of the players by their clubs.
There could still be an outgoing at United, with Napoli keen on Scott McTominay. It’s suggested that United would sell for around £25m.

Newcastle are not giving up in their pursuit of Marc Guehi.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has said it will take “superstar money” to persuade the club to sell, with Newcastle already having three bids rejected.
However, Sky Sports report that Guehi is still a top target for the Magpies, who will continue to push for the centre-back until the end of the window.
It’s believed Palace want at least £70m for the 24-year-old, with Newcastle’s latest bid in the region of £60m.

Another major exit from Leeds is now looming in the form of Georginio Rutter.
The French forward is one of the Championship club’s top remaining assets follow the summer sales of the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray.
But multiple outlets including the BBC report that Brighton have triggered Rutter’s £40m release clause at Elland Road as they look to make a huge signing for new manager Fabian Hurzeler.

West Ham are believed to be plotting another major new addition to their new-look attack in the form of Tammy Abraham.
The Irons have been on a transfer spree of late in order to bolster new boss Julen Lopetegui’s squad ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
The likes of Niclas Fullkrug, Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme have all arrived so far to boost West Ham’s options in the final third, but it seems that the club want another top option up front.
According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers want to bring former Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League having failed to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.
Roma are apparently willing to sell the 26-year-old for a total package worth £25m after getting Artem Dovbyk from Girona.

Sport Zone report that the 23-year-old Brazilian international is their top target to replace Emerson Royal, who completed a £13m switch to AC Milan earlier this week.
Reports claim that Monaco would be looking to bank more than £34m for Vanderson.
