It's the final matchday of the league phase in this season's Champions League, and Arsenal will be aiming to join Liverpool in the last-16 as it faces Girona later.

Mikel Arteta's side is all but guaranteed to avoid the extra play-off round, with just a point needed in Spain tonight to secure a top-eight finish. With the Gunners currently positioned in third in the standings, even a defeat might not be enough to deny them a spot in the last-16 with Liverpool and Barcelona.

Arsenal though will be aiming to end the opening stage on a high, especially with a huge Premier League game against Manchester City lying in wait at the weekend, and with Girona having already been eliminated, the visitors will be favorites to secure their safe progression.

Early team news

Arsenal looks set to have both Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino back available this evening. The pair missed the Gunners' win over Wolves at the weekend, with Odegaard having recovered from illness while Merino is back after a slight knock.

Arteta though remains without the injured Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White.

With Arsenal looking set to earn a spot in the last-16, Aretat could look to make some changes tonight, especially with the weekend visit of City in mind. The likes of Jakub Kiwior and Raheem Sterling could come into his thinking, while goalkeeper Neto could be handed a rare start.
