Why Man United can still seal transfer for defender despite January transfer window closing
Manchester United can still complete a transfer for Tyrell Malacia despite the January transfer window shutting.
Ruben Amorim highlighted the need to strengthen the left side of his squad at the beginning of the transfer window and this was finally accomplished on Sunday when the Reds announced the arrival of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. The £29.5m signing was seen as a major success for United due to the lack of wing-backs in the squad.
However, MEN Sport has reported that United needed to sell to buy this month and as such Malacia was touted out. Real Betis and Benfica were both linked with the Dutchman but it is PSV Eindhoven who were put in the driving seat on deadline day.

As the clock struck 11pm on deadline day, no official confirmation has been published about Malacia's departure for the Eredivisie club. While some may worry that this means the move is dead for the 25-year-old, this is not the case.
The Dutch transfer window is set to shut at midnight on Tuesday, February 4 and therefore PSV are in no rush to complete a move for Malacia tonight. It is now likely that Malacia's departure to the Eindhoven club will be confirmed tomorrow.
MEN Sport understands talks remain ongoing with PSV over the nature of the loan deal. United want to include an obligation to buy in the agreement which would see Malacia exit permanently in the summer to help balance the books.
United chose not to make any signings on deadline day as the Manchester Evening News understands Ineos chose to keep the vast majority of their funds for the summer instead.
