Manchester United have endured a difficult season so far and it does feel like Ruben Amorim is desperate for the summer to come around. United sit 13th in the Premier League, having picked up just 29 points from their 24 matches.

While United are through to the FA Cup fifth round and into the Europa League round of 16, the season has been a dismal one and Amorim's men aren't improving either. The performance against Leicester City on Friday was not positive in the slightest and they were fortunate to progress.

Significant investment might be needed in the summer to ensure Amorim has the tools to get his United side moving in the right direction, even if that could be tough with the financial constraints put upon them. With this in mind, a major sale is going be required to fund the United rebuild.

Looking at who could fetch a considerable fee, there are two obvious options: Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. Rashford made his debut for Aston Villa on Sunday after joining the club on loan, while Garnacho has failed to cement a regular spot in the United starting XI under Amorim.

At the moment, the clear pick to sell is Rashford. Villa have an option to buy the 27-year-old in the summer for £40million, and if United can cash in on him for that, it would give them a sizeable pot of money to spent as Rashford is considered as pure profit, having come from the club's academy.

The first port of call if United were to sell Rashford is signing a new centre forward. Viktor Gyokeres is the man that United sign. It's clear that a number of players have struggled to adapt to Amorim's system but Gyokeres would have no issue with that, having impressed with him at Sporting CP.

Gyokeres, who joined Sporting from Coventry City for £16.5m in summer 2023, has scored 34 goals in 34 matches this season. His form has been so consistent and there is hope that the Sweden international can translate that if he decides to move to United and the Premier League for next season.

Another player that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford is Matheus Cunha. A report on Tuesday morning suggested that United are 'very closely' following the Brazil international, who has a £60m release clause in his Wolves contract that can be activated in the summer.

While he isn't an out-and-out No.9, Cunha would provide a perfect option in one of the two inside forward roles - a position he has often played for Wolves. With 12 goals and four assists to his name in 25 matches this season, Cunha is in the best form of his career and he could be a coup for United.

With Gyokeres and Cunha coming in, there might be space for one more addition, especially if Antony and one of Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee is sold. Geovany Quenda is the man that could complete that forward line. United have been tracking Quenda since he made his senior debut for Sporting in August.

Quenda has started in 18 of Sporting's 21 league fixtures this season and in all eight of their Champions League ties. He has scored two goals and tallied seven assists.

The Portugal international has switched from the right wing to the left wing since Amorim left Lisbon in November, with Sporting now operating in a 4-3-3 formation under new coach Tiago Aguilar. Amorim's replacement, Joao Pereira, was sacked after only eight games.

Next season, United could line-up with Cunha in the left inside forward role, Quenda on the right inside forward role and Gyokeres as the centre forward. That is no doubt a 'dream' front three for Amorim, with the likes of Amad and one of Hojlund or Zirkzee to call on from the bench.

Amorim will also have Patrick Dorgu to call upon. Dorgu is expected to be primarily used on the left wing in the future, despite making his debut on the right against Leicester.
