Liverpool boss Arne Slot refused to disclose who would be playing in goal for his side against Tottenham tomorrow during his pre-match press conference because he hasn't told Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher yet.

There are, though more big decisions coming. "I know [my decision] but the goalkeepers don't know yet," Slot said. "I will tell them after this."

Slot also spoke about the size of the substitute benches that are allowed in England. Against Bournemouth last weekend, he had to leave both Federico Chiesa and Joe Gomez at home despite them both being available because there was no room for them on the teamsheet.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has since picked up an injury that will keep him out against Spurs, but someone will be absent from the matchday squad again. And that doesn't include Tyler Morton, who was denied an exit in the window despite interest from Middlesbrough, with the Liverpool midfielder having barely featured this season so far.

"One of the only things I don't understand here, everywhere around the world and Europe, we can take 23 players to the game," Slot continued. "We play so many games here, so if you are able to you need a big squad, that seems fair.

"So to pick first XI is difficult but to tell people he's not even in the squad is harder, so I don't know why we don't have 23 for the games. Nine subs is enough, but to keep the dressing room going, you need more than 20 players.

"For teams in Europe, you need more than 20, so why can't we bring 23 instead of 20? That is the rule so it is a difficult decision to leave someone out who works every day and wants to be involved."

Liverpool.com says: Having more players on the bench would be nice at the moment but Liverpool is not likely to have only a single injury most of the time. Slot is fortunate to have only Alexander-Arnold out right now and he will only be missing for a few days. Normally, he won't have such a luxury.
