Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says his side has a second injury concern to contend with after Joe Gomez limped off against Plymouth Argyle. Hours before the defeat in the FA Cup, another player revealed his discomfort to the Reds boss.

"[Gomez's injury] was a bit of a blow because Curtis Jones was on the bench, but he came to me this morning and said, 'I don't think I am fully recovered yet' as well after the training session of yesterday," Slot said during his post-match press conference.

"That all of a sudden led to the fact we were with a few more youngsters on the pitch than was the idea before the game. But still, there was enough quality on the pitch to get a better result than this."

Liverpool named Jones on the bench because it was too late to bring another player down to the south coast for the fixture. However, he was never going to be used even when he would have been useful.

As Liverpool chased a goal to come back into the game having fallen behind to Ryan Hardie's second-half penalty, Darwin Nunez and Trent Kone-Doherty both entered the field. Jones didn't even warm up.

Diogo Jota was isolated in the game and Harvey Elliott didn't play well. Liverpool crashed out and now must focus on the midweek trip to Everton which comes in just three days' time.

Liverpool.com says: Jones has always been disrupted by niggling injuries so he will hope this is not the latest one. Ahead of the Merseyside derby and a string of important fixtures in the three remaining competitions, Slot needs as many players fit as possible. The fact that Conor Bradley didn't even travel to Plymouth suggests that Trent Alexander-Arnold won't be back for Wednesday.
