England fans were confronted by Spanish riot police in Seville after a night of vandalism and other criminal behaviour.

The fans indulged in anti-social behaviour and heavy drinking as they kicked off wing mirrors and menaced drivers. There are believed to be around 3,000 visitors from England ahead of the Nations League match against Spain.

Footage showed a fan hurling a glass at a car as it drove past him, and riot police came to restore order. They fired warning shots into the air which caused some fans to run en masse from the police.

Deputy Chief Constable Mark Roberts, said it would be “incredibly disheartening” if fans misbehaved just three years after England fans clashed in the streets on their last international visit to the country.

After a day of drinking in the city, fans were recorded running towards a confrontation with other England supporters and the city’s police, chanting a refrain of ‘England, England.’

Mr Roberts, the National Police Chiefs’ Council Football Policing Lead, said of English police offers in Spain: “They will also be gathering intelligence, and anyone seen to be misbehaving could not only face being arrested and charged for offences in Spain, they could also be subject to a football banning order on their return to the UK.”
