The TNT Sport panel joked that David Moyes was mimicking Jurgen Klopp prior to the Merseyside derby, as the Everton manager stood stony-faced and observed the Liverpool players' warm-up at Goodison Park.

Soccer fans became accustomed to seeing Klopp do exactly that prior to games during his nine-year spell at Liverpool, as the legendary ex-Reds boss kept an eye on opposition teams ahead of kick-off in big games.

It's something that Rio Ferdinand picked up on as the players went through their paces, as the former Manchester United defender said: "I love the way the managers stare out the opponents. Klopp used to do that, and Moyesy's gone, 'You know what, I'm going to give it to these boys!'"

Klopp previously explained why he used to watch other teams go through their warm-ups, and denied that it was a tactic designed to intimidate opposition players.

"I have done it my whole career," Klopp said. "My job is more or less done before the game, when they come together in the dressing room I'll say a few things, but I know my players. I just want to see and understand. Sometimes you see a player limping a little bit, you see a player do this or that... I just try to understand what they are doing.

"It's not so interesting when they are doing pure physical stuff, but when they are doing passing and these kind of things. Only one time I used it to intimidate the opponent. It was against my old club - Borussia Dortmund. I thought, 'come on, let's do it'. If someone says I do it on purpose, it's not true. I just watch it."

Wednesday's game is the last-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, with the Toffees moving to their new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Ahead of the game, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson admitted the team was expecting a tough challenge. He told TNT Sports: "We are expecting the same as always here. A lot of passion and energy. The same we always get in a derby between Liverpool and Everton. It is a tough game here against them, we know how much effort everybody puts in, not only them but us as well.

"We are ready and prepared for what we will face. For a derby everyone puts in extra effort so we know we are going to have to be on our toes if we want to leave with a win. It is a special game for everyone. The last derby we are going to play here. When the game starts that doesn't matter. We come here to get the three points. It is an important game for us, as is every game from now on.

"A win means a lot. At the next moment we are only looking at the next challenge, we should not just look at the table and count the points. We have to keep playing and performing the way we have been, we have to keep fighting for every point we can get."
