Federico Chiesa has come under fire following his latest performance, with critics questioning his impact during Liverpool's defeat to Plymouth Argyle.

Chiesa continues his fight to regain form and fitness for Liverpool, earning his 10th appearance and third start as he seeks to make a case for more game time under Arne Slot.

However it was a game to forget for the former Juventus star who endured a challenging afternoon at Home Park, relinquishing possession 29 times throughout the match. Fans hoped that his creativity help the Reds sail through to the next round of the FA Cup, but the performance only added to the growing concerns surrounding his form.

Speaking on ITV Sport following the defeat, Karen Carney shared her thoughts on the 27-year old. “Chiesa, to be honest, I thought was poor" said Carney.

“All Liverpool fans, after his injuries and stuff, are probably wanting him to do well but way off the boil today – not good enough.

“I am disappointed from Liverpool. It shows that when you take out the senior players it’s not the same.”

Liverpool were heavy favourites to defeat the team at the bottom of the Championship, but in the end, they struggled to make an impact on their opponents.

After reaching the final of the Carabao Cup earlier in the week, Liverpool's hopes in the FA Cup were dashed, but attention will now shift fully to the other three competitions, where the Reds are excelling.

Liverpool.com says: "Chiesa struggled at Plymouth, failing to beat his man despite multiple attempts, making it a tough performance to watch. While he wasn't the only one at fault, his display hasn't helped his case for more starts."
