Gossip: Real 'offer Bale and Modric for Kane', PSG 'want £90m Kante', Ozil 'to pen new Arsenal deal' (because no-one else wants him)

Tottenham ‘have been offered Modric and Bale back’, PSG could be on his way to Paris while Ozil could be staying at Arsenal after all
Tottenham ‘have been offered Modric and Bale back’, PSG could be on his way to Paris while Ozil could be staying at Arsenal after all

It must be quite frustrating for Tottenham how, every time they have the good fortune of getting a world class player on their books, he ends up signing for Real Madrid and being inadequately replaced.

And it’s happening again, with the free-scoring Harry Kane getting linked to the Spanish giants on a daily basis. But what about if this time, the Lilywhites could have some of their old world class players back?

Although there are no Spurs fans in existence who would actively choose to cash in on the Chigwell goal machine, there may be a few who feel that a transfer proposal mooted in today’s Star represents the best offer they are going to get.

The tabloid – via Spanish outlet Diario Gol – claims that Madrid are willing to offer Spurs Gareth Bale in exchange for Kane, and they’ll throw Luka Modric and Karim Benzema into the deal too.

It’s actually quite an ingenious concoction which may put Spurs in the previously unthinkable position of wondering whether they could live without Kane.

It’s an offer that has everything: Bale, the superstar forward; Modric, the White Hart Lane legend; and Benzema, whose appeals lies purely in the fact that Arsenal have tried and failed so many times to buy him and it would be funny.

The fact that all three of these Bernabeu players earn double the salary of Tottenham’s highest earner – and that Daniel Levy would sooner re-sign David Bentley than bow to their wage demands – is not important right now.

Nor is the fact that, according to the Mirror, Real have actually offered Bale to Manchester United. The tabloid claims the European champions are prepared to let the Welshman move to Old Trafford if they can recoup the £85m they paid for him (which is £89.3m in today’s exchange rate – stupid Brexit).

Ozil’s ‘humiliating climbdown’

Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil looks set to sensationally to remain with Arsenal. But not out of the kindness of his heart, just because no other club wants him.

The Sun says the German is set to make a “humiliating climbdown” and accept the Gunners’ wage offer of £250,000 a week after having no takers for the £330,000-a-week/zero transfer fee deal his agent has been offering to Europe’s elite.

Turkish side Besiktas are apparently “the only side that has shown a serious interest” in Ozil, but they are even worse than Arsenal.

Elsewhere, it’s Chelsea’s turn to be scared of Paris Saint-Germain as the Ligue 1 leaders prepare a £90m bid for Blues midfield lynchpin N’Golo Kante (Mirror), Tottenham left-back Danny Rose is set to snub Antonio Conte’s side and seal a £45m move to Man Utd (Star) and Jack Wilshere wants to quit Arsenal in January in an attempt to play more games and force himself into England’s World Cup squad (Times). That sad part is this would seem like a laughable suggestion if only England’s midfield wasn’t so bad.
