Kieran Trippier gets a very special reward for his England World Cup heroics
Kieran Tripper will be awarded the freedom of Bury by his hometown in recognition of his performances at the World Cup in Russia.
The 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender has been one of the standout performers for England, and across the whole tournament, and became only the third English player to score in a World Cup semi-final when he opened the scoring in the 2-1 defeat to Croatia.
Tripper posted a tribute on Twitter to his colleagues following England’s exit.

Bury Council leader Rishi Shori paid tribute to Trippier on Thursday, saying he was a, ‘role model.’ Shori went on to say:
“Kieran and his England team-mates have given a huge amount of joy for local people.
“He deserves to be acknowledged. He is a huge role model to younger people and hopefully can inspire the next generation of footballers in Bury.”

Trippier was born and educated in Bury, before going on to join Manchester City’s academy. He would join Elbow and Danny Boyle as a freeman if he accepts the honour.
