Liverpool rivals see $86m transfer deadline day bid rejected as Arsenal ‘in talks’ for striker
Liverpool’s transfer window is expected to end without major excitement, but elsewhere in the Premier League there is plenty happening on transfer deadline day.
Indeed, the calm surrounding Liverpool in the market has been in stark contrast to the panic-stricken approach seen among Liverpool’s rivals, many of whom have been forced into making big additions this month.
Manchester City’s swagger in the transfer market has definitely evaporated. In addition to the signings of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov, the Blues are being linked with a deadline-day swoop for Nico Gonzalez.

The Daily Mail claims City is in talks to sign midfielder Nico Gonzalez before the window shuts at 23:00 GMT/18:00 ET, and are negotiating with Porto to accept a fee lower than his £50m ($61.5m) release clause.
As for Liverpool’s biggest title rivals, Arsenal, reports in Brazil claim Jorginho could seal a move to Flamengo on deadline day. Globo claims the Gunners have rejected an offer but Flamengo planned to return with an improved bid.
The Gunners also continue to be linked with a move for Mathys Tel. German reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that Arsenal is ‘in talks’ with Bayern Munich over a possible deal, but a fee remains the sticking point.
Manchester United had been linked with a move for Tel in recent days but that appears to have gone cold. A deal for Christopher Nkunku also looks unlikely, with Sky Sports reporting the Frenchman is set to remain at Chelsea.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News claims the injury suffered by Lisandro Martinez in Sunday’s defeat to Crystal Palace could force United into the market, given the Argentinian may be ruled out for the remainder of the season.
As for outgoings, Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa was confirmed late on Sunday, while Alejandro Garnacho could complete a late switch to Chelsea, according to Football London.
The Blues might see Joao Felix leave in the final hours of the winter market with the Mirror claiming AC Milan are trying to sign the former Atletico Madrid star on loan. Cesare Casadei’s switch to Torino has been confirmed, while Alex Disasi is another possible departure from Stamford Bridge, with the Mail reporting Villa is his ‘preferred destination’ as Tottenham Hotspur drop out of the running.
Spurs, a day on from confirming the loan signing of Kevin Danso, has lodged a £70m offer for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, which the Independent claims has been immediately rejected.
The same outlet reports Lloyd Kelly is set to leave Newcastle United and sign for Juventus for a fee of around £15m (£18.5m) with add-ons and a sell-on clause.
