Liverpool set for first ref reunion since Spurs controversy as Michael Oliver decision made
Darren England, the referee who made the monumental VAR decision that saw Luis Diaz accidentally denied a legitimate goal against Tottenham last season, is set to take charge of a match involving the Reds for the first time since that incident.
England, the PGMOL has confirmed, will take charge of Bournemouth vs Liverpool in the huge Premier League clash between the sides on Saturday. It will be the first time he has refereed Liverpool since May 2023 and only the fifth time he has ever been in the middle for the Reds, though he was fourth official once earlier this season.
Michael Oliver, meanwhile, has been appointed as the man in the middle for the rearranged Merseyside derby. He will take charge of what is likely to be the final match between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Oliver, of course, was at the center of a major storm this weekend when he sent off Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly. England, by coincidence, was the VAR on that occasion, and didn't intervene.
While most incidents of that sort tend to end in yellow cards, Oliver noted that the contact from the Gunners' teenager was above the ankle of Wolves' Matt Doherty and the challenge was made with intensity, with no intention to play the ball. Given that, the VAR was unable to conclusively suggest he had made an error as the video evidence backed up what he described.
Liverpool.com says: The trip to Bournemouth is a massive game for England to return to overseeing Liverpool in. The pressure was always going to be on him when he was in charge of the Reds again, with everywhere aware of what happened at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — a much bigger mistake than Oliver's red card decision that has caused such a furore.
