Abdukodir Khusanov enjoyed a nightmare opening few minutes to his Manchester City career after making a huge error to allow Chelsea to open the scoring.

The 20-year-old, thrust into the starting line-up for a debut, got his header back to Ederson all wrong and Nicolas Jackson nipped in to square for Noni Madueke to tap into an empty net.

Moments later the Uzbekistan international was booked for a late tackle on Cole Palmer having gifted the Chelsea man possession.

The £33million new boy looked stunned after a testing opening few minutes.

"Khusanov looks like he's trembling when you look at him," said Gary Neville, speaking on Sky Sports as part of the commentary team. "His teammates need to rally around and protect."

Senior City players and manager Pep Guardiola did just that. Ederson came out from his goal to offer a word of advice after Khusanov's error while Josko Gvardiol also spoke to the youngster.

Bernardo Silva seemingly dropped a bit deeper to provide a guiding hand through the next few phases of play while Guardiola greeted one challenge later in the half with a round of applause.

The home fans too recognised the difficult start Khusanov was enduring and offered him a sympathetic round of applause for completing a successful pass to Ederson.
