Jacob Wright is still expected to leave Manchester City today but a move to Swansea looks to have fallen through.

It had been agreed for the young midfielder to go to the Championship club on a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season, and Wright was in South Wales yesterday. The permanent deal was set to be worth around £4million. However, the Manchester Evening News understands that it is now not likely to happen

Wright has made four first team appearances for Pep Guardiola's side and travelled to the USA on their pre-season tour last summer. He has been around the first team picture at City but has not managed to make a breakthrough into the squad on a regular basis. Middlesbrough had also been linked with a move for the teenager, who is still set to secure an Etihad exit before the 11pm deadline.

The departure for Wright would be the latest example of City selling their academy prospects having allowed the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Liam Delap and Tommy Doyle to leave in the last 12 months.

Wright has been with City since the age of eight. He has progressed through the ranks and made his first team debut in the FA Cup win over Huddersfield last season while he also came off the bench in a Champions League win over FC Copenhagen.
