Women's World Cup: Meet Scotland's history makers

The first-ever Scotland squad to compete in a Women’s World Cup will be named by manager Shelley Kerr on Wednesday.

The players will hope to become household names with a successful campaign. Ahead of the tournament, Yahoo Sport UK spoke to three of the stars - Fiona Brown, Leanne Crichton and Hayley Lauder - to learn more about the women heading to France.

Twenty-four-year-old Brown is a tricky winger and plays her club football for FC Rosengård in Sweden. Crichton, a midfielder, is based in Scotland with current champions Glasgow City and Hayley Lauder is a teammate of Crichton’s and plays as a forward.

Kerr said picking which players make the squad will be the hardest footballing decision she has ever had to make and added: “We need to make sure every single player within the squad is playing at their optimal best.

“I think we know the first game that we play is against our oldest rivals, Scotland v England, we know it’s going to be tough.”

Scotland’s games with England takes place on June 9th.
