Swansea City launch €5m bid for Swedish midfielder as club release statement
Swansea City have submitted a bid of around £3million for highly-rated Swedish midfielder Melker Widell.
The 22-year-old has been a regular for Danish side AaB Fodbold, making 20 appearances in all competitions, and his current deal runs until the end of 2026.
An attacking midfielder by trade, he is largely described as a box-to-box number eight, and his exploits in Denmark have clearly caught the eye.

In an update to the Copenhagen Stock Exchange, the club said: "Aalborg Boldspilklub A/S is experiencing great interest in several players and has now received a concrete offer from a foreign club for vice-captain Melker Widell.
"In this connection, AaB has chosen to initiate substantive negotiations on a possible transfer. There is no guarantee that an agreement will be concluded."
That foreign club, sources in Denmark claim, is Swansea City.
According to Swedish outlet Sportbladet, the deal is believed to be just over £3.65million plus bonuses, and states there are other clubs interested.
Widell has made little secret of his desire to test himself in English football, having been linked with a move to the Premier League back in January.
"I know there's interest," he told Danish outlet Bold. "I've heard of it and it's really fun. The dream is to come to one of the big leagues and have people even more aware of my name.
"Obviously, I have great ambitions. I want to be able to represent the biggest clubs and explore the whole world of football, but at the same time I really enjoy it here.
"You should never ever be in a hurry when you are in a good environment. We get to see what happens.

"I've been thinking that English football is the best there is. The dream is to reach there one day. Manchester United is my favourite team, but the most important thing is to come to a fun club that plays good football."
Swansea have so far brought just one player on board this month, with Hannes Delcroix joining on loan from Burnley, while they are seemingly set to lose captain Matt Grimes to Coventry City.
Two bids have already been batted away by the Swans, but it's understood an agreement is likely to be struck, with the player himself making it clear to the club's hierarchy that he wishes to move on.
Whether Widell will be brought in as a direct replacement isn't yet clear. Indeed, the club were understood to have been keen on a new central midfielder before news of Grimes' imminent exit.
