2024 Copa America: Score, highlights for Brazil vs. Costa Rica

One of the favorites in this year's Copa América tournaments kicked off group stage play tonight. Brazil, which has won five of the last ten Copa America tournaments, came into this year's play with +225 odds, per BetMGM – second-best in the tournament (Argentina, +175).

The Brazil national team, led by forward Vinicius Junior, got Costa Rica for their first game. Despite being one of the better Central American teams in this year's tournament, Costa Rica has the daunting task of playing in Group D, which includes two tournament favorites in Brazil and Colombia, as well as dark horse Paraguay.

Costa Rica has only ever reached the quarterfinals of the Copa America tournament (1991). While Los Ticos' new generation certainly has high hopes for themselves, it will take a tremendous upset to escape Group D this year.
