Troy Deeney names surprise Liverpool ace as 'player of the weekend by a mile'
Liverpool played well as it beat Ipswich Town this weekend, though in reality, it never left second gear. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring on 11 minutes and from there, the result was done.
Mohamed Salah added a second and Cody Gakpo a third and fourth, but it could have been more for Liverpool. Had they needed to, the Reds could have netted seven or eight, with Ipswich defenders being pulled left and right.
While Szoboszlai was superb, Salah overtook Thierry Henry in the Premier League goalscoring rankings and Gakpo got a brace, Troy Deeney — now in charge of the BBC's team of the week — had another pick for his favorite player in the game. In fact, he was praised for being the best player across the whole weekend of Premier League action.

"This is the first time you’re going to hear me say this and probably the last," Deeney wrote. "I was at the game and I would pay a huge amount of money to watch that.
"He was incredible; passing range, fitness, endeavor, defensive work as well as attacking work. He hit the bar. I thought he was excellent. Player of the weekend by a country mile."
Liverpool.com says: Alexander-Arnold played well enough against Ipswich and he delivered a nice assist for Gakpo's second, but his passing range should not be a surprise at this point. It was an easy game for him at right-back with the Liverpool number 66 gliding through without much of a problem.
Szoboszlai stood out more and Salah was more involved in the final third, while Gakpo scored two goals. Alexander-Arnold being picked out was, therefore, a surprise, though it is even more eyebrow-raising that Deeney thought this was in any way unusual for him. He does that every week, which is why a new contract at Anfield is so important.
