Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has expressed his excitement ahead of watching his former two sides play against each other in the Premier League.

The Dutch goalkeeper represented both United and Fulham with distinction during his illustrious career, making a combined 420 appearances for both clubs. Taking to Instagram on Sunday afternoon, Van der Sar confirmed he would be at Craven Cottage for the fixture and paid tribute to both teams.

"Today I will be at Craven Cottage to watch Fulham vs Manchester United," he wrote. "I spent a total of ten years between the clubs and enjoyed all of my time in the Premier League for both.

"Meeting new friends and experiences with my family in London gave me a new perspective which led to a succesful period for my career." While it does not appear that Van der Sar will be working the game as a pundit, he may show up on TNT Sports coverage as his ex-teammate Rio Ferdinand shall be appearing on their panel.

Van der Sar recently faced a health scare after suffering a brain haemorrhage shortly after leaving Ajax as their CEO. Thankfully, the legendary goalkeeper has now made a full recovery.

On Sunday evening, both teams meet for the second time this season after the Reds won the reverse fixture in August 1-0 thanks to Joshua Zirkzee's debut goal. That match was the opening game of the season and since then the two clubs have suffered contrasting fortunes.

Fulham sit comfortably in mid-table having picked up some impressive results while United are struggling in the bottom half of the table and have changed their manager since the last meeting. Even with a victory, the Reds will not leap above Marco Silva's side in the table.
