4 summer transfers Liverpool could complete after quiet deadline day

It was certainly a quiet transfer window for Liverpool, with no new signings to bolster the Reds’ push for silverware this season.

Although there are some obvious areas for improvement in Arne Slot’s squad, the Dutchman will have to make do with the hand he was dealt after the summer window as he looks to guide his side to victory in the Premier League title race against Arsenal.

The lack of activity will no doubt come as a disappointment to some supporters, although the blow can be cushioned by the knowledge that there should be new faces making their way to Anfield later on this year. After all, Slot has already indicated that there is work going on behind the scenes to secure some new signings in the summer.

So, what can we expect in the next transfer window? Liverpool.com has taken a look at four possible transfers that could happen during the summer.

Milos Kerkez

Left-back will almost certainly be a priority for Liverpool in the summer, and one name does seem to have stood out from the rest. Milos Kerkez has been highly impressive for Bournemouth this season, even in defeat to the Reds on Saturday.

The iPaper did suggest the Hungary international is top of the Reds' shopping list recently, and sporting director Richard Hughes may be able to use his experience on the south coast to his advantage, having brought Kerkez to England in his previous role. There is one slight problem, though - the 21-year-old has already said he won't be moving to Anfield.

Hopefully, he just meant he wouldn't be moving to Merseyside in January, and he can still be convinced to make the move during the summer. He already looks as though he could be the perfect heir to Andy Robertson.

Johan Bakayoko

Liverpool has been given a close look at Johan Bakayoko recently, with the Belgian scoring when the Reds met PSV Eindhoven in their final league phase encounter in the Champions League. Was that enough to earn him a move to Anfield? Well, he certainly thinks it should be.

"I definitely think that I can join Liverpool," Bakayoko confidently claimed after the game. Slot and Hughes will be the true judges of that.

The 21-year-old has been linked with the Reds plenty over the last 12 months, especially last summer. But while he certainly has plenty of ability, there will be some question marks over his attitude after last week's game.

Even his own manager wasn't happy with his showboating against a weakened Liverpool side, and Bakayoko's subsequent comments might not impress anyone on Merseyside too much. He could still be an option, though, especially if Mohamed Salah is to leave.

Jonathan David

Another player that should be fresh in the memory for Liverpool fans having come up against the Reds just a couple of weeks ago with Lille. Unlike the other names on this list, though, Jonathan David could cost absolutely nothing in the summer.

David's contract is set to expire at the end of the season. While he was linked with a move away during the January window, nothing materialized, so now it's a question of whether he will extend his stay at Lille, or become a free agent in the summer.

If it's the latter, you can guarantee some interest from the Premier League. Liverpool has been linked, with TEAMtalk even suggesting the Reds made an offer last month, and with doubts over Darwin Nunez persisting, a new striker could be on the shopping list.

Murillo

Perhaps a bit of an ambitious name to throw into the mix considering he only signed a new deal at Nottingham Forest last month, but if reports are anything to go by, there could still be an opportunity for Liverpool to sign Murillo.

According to Caught Offside, the Brazilian would still "consider" a move to Anfield. Given his performances for Forest over the past 18 months, that could be music to the ears of Liverpool fans - especially if Virgil van Dijk is destined to depart.

Not that Murillo would come cheaply. The report also suggests that Forest values the 22-year-old at around $100 million (£80M/€96M), which is a hefty sum, to say the least - but given what we’ve seen from him, it might well be worth it.
