Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says his side would have gained an advantage had the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Spurs not come a month after Lucas Bergvall gave Tottenham a one-goal lead in the tie.

Since then, Ange Postecoglou has signed two new players, though he could also be without as many as 10 senior stars through injury. Spurs beat Brentford in the Premier League last weekend but have been in a dire run of form.

"Now you tell me, you are right that it is unusual [to have such a space between legs]," Slot said during his pre-match press conference. "Not that it matters a lot but if you play one week later than normal you face the exact team again. With all the injuries Spurs had last time, it would have been an advantage for us but we still lost against the ones who were fit.

"We face two different players (Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, who have been signed from Lens and Bayern Munich respectively since the first leg). I wonder if Micky van de Ven can play; he has a big impact. So it might change the quality of the team and we already couldn't win, so it will be difficult. But we will be better than the last time too."

Trent Alexander-Arnold will sit the game out with a thigh issue but Slot has confirmed that he won't be absent for more than a few days. Conor Bradley will get another chance to impress in his place.

"[Bradley] played against Spurs back then too," Slot said. "Every game and session there is something to learn and if not, it wasn't a good session from me.

"I think we played a good game against PSV with a team who hardly ever played together and we did concede three goals. It's something on the feedback we gave. [Bradley] wasn't involved in every goal but he was in one in my opinion. He wasn't aggressive enough which led to the third."

Liverpool.com says: Spurs will likely make things tricky and there are more than enough dangerous players available to Postecoglou that he will be able to offer a threat, but Liverpool should still progress. The Reds are comfortably the better side and should be able to show that with home advantage.
