Everton’s injury issues are mounting up ahead of next week’s Merseyside derby.

The Toffees welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park for the last time on Wednesday night before it completes the move to its new Bramley Dock Stadium next season. But Everton ’s build-up to the game has been hampered with a series of injury blows in recent weeks.

Vitalii Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson added to that over the weekend when both full-backs missed the FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth with knocks.

“It was only Myko felt his calf this morning when I saw him,” David Moyes explained after the game. “We had the chance we could change it and it was easy enough yet. I have no idea yet of the outcome but he just felt it a bit tight.”

As for Patterson, Moyes added: “He felt his hamstring in training. That's why he wasn't here, he had a tight hamstring. I would think Wednesday would be too soon for him probably.”

Mykolenko’s absence would be a major issue for Everton given the left-back has started all of the last 16 Premier League matches and 21 of the club’s 23 games so far this term. Patterson is less of a regular in the starting XI but has been introduced off the bench in the last three league matches.

Without the pair, Jake O'Brien and Ashley Young started in the full-back positions against Bournemouth, with Antoine Semenyo and Daniel Jebbison grabbing the goals in the fourth-round win. It leaves the Toffees with precious little to play for over the coming months given it has pulled nine points clear of the relegation zone under Moyes, who has won his last three Premier League matches.

Vitaliy Mykolenko
Vitaliy Mykolenko is an injury doubt ahead of Wednesday's game against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Everton is struggling with a lack of available strikers at present with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti all set to miss the Liverpool game. So is Dwight McNeil, who recently underwent knee surgery, and long-term absentee Orel Mangala. Seamus Coleman is a doubt for the derby due to an ongoing calf issue.

For Liverpool, the big injury concern is Trent Alexander-Arnold. He picked up a thigh problem against Bournemouth last week and missed the Carabao Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur in midweek as a result.

The right-back will also sit out the FA Cup trip to Plymouth Argyle and Slot admitted on Friday he is not sure if Alexander-Arnold will be back in time to face Everton next week. “Difficult to say. Like I said before, it's not going to take months, and not even weeks, but that's only three days after the Plymouth Argyle game, so let's wait and see if he's available.”

“We also have to look at long-term, we don't want to take risks with so many games afterwards, but if he's fit, then of course we will use him.”

Tyler Morton is the only other Liverpool injury with the squad looking extremely healthy heading into the final months of the season.
