New Tottenham stadium: Fans hail 'incredible noise' during opening game

Tottenham supporters were quick to hail the noise in their new stadium as they opened it against Crystal Palace.

Spurs finally got to play their first competitive game at the ground, six months after it was supposed to open, but fans felt it was worth the wait.

The South Stand is the largest single tier stand in England, holding 17,500 people and supporters could not believe how loud the ground was.

Spurs have put plenty of work into making sure the ground has an intimate atmosphere, despite holding 60,000 people and it appears to have paid off.

They were keen to make sure the stands remained close to the pitch, unlike Wembley, The Emirates Stadium or The London Stadium, and they succeeded.

Despite the early noise, Crystal Palace’s travelling fans were quick to poke fun at their London rivals midway through the first half.

They sang ‘Is this the Emirates?’ as the nerves set in at the ground – Spurs have not won in five Premier League games and are desperate for three points in the race for a top four finish.
