Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has revealed what Darwin Nunez told him ahead of Uruguay's Copa America campaign.

This summer will see Nunez start for Uruguay at the tournament which is being held in the United States. The Liverpool striker will be alongside Suarez in Marcelo Bielsa's squad, but the duo's shirt numbers have caught plenty of attention.

Nunez will wear the No.19 shirt for Uruguay this summer, while the famed No.9 shirt will be worn by Suarez. Bielsa included Suarez in the squad after the former Liverpool striker enjoyed an impressive first half of the Major League Soccer season with Inter Miami, scoring 14 goals in 20 appearances.

Nunez scored 18 goals for Liverpool last season, but his future has been the subject of debate ahead of Arne Slot's first campaign at Anfield. Suarez has spoken highly of Nunez after revealing what the Reds striker said to him about the shirt number selection for Uruguay.

"When Darwin comes, he asks me things, at the time yes, I was the starter, Edi (Cavani) was the starter, but he always came, asked, wanted to learn things and that is spectacular," Suarez told AUF TV, via Teledoce.

"He, with the humility that he is, a very good kid, said 'No, Luis, you're the number nine, I'm going to respect you when you're not there if I'm going to grab [the No.9 shirt]

"Those are details that demonstrate the greatness and humility of a player who is going to be one of the best, if not one of the best in the world today.

Suarez added: "Having him in front of me seeing how he trains, how he plays each game, how can I not stop to applaud him and celebrate?"
