Must-haves

Defence

Last week, Leicester City managed to destroy Liverpool 3-1, in a strange situation where both teams should have been somewhat embarrassed as they walked off the pitch. That being said, Leicester City may just be a fantasy football option again, and with a game against Hull, the likes of Christian Fuchs, Kasper Schmeichel and co should be considered. They’ve not kept a clean sheet in 6 but they’ll want revenge for the last time these two met on the opening day of the season. Swansea are also in a similar position to Leicester City in the league and will be looking to come out victorious against a struggling Burnley side who have only won once in their last 5. Alfie Mawson has managed to find the back of the net 3 times in his last 7 fixtures for the Swans, so he will also provide some attacking threat along with clean sheet potential this week.

Midfielders

Continuing the Swansea theme, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been brilliant for the Welsh side this season and he will no doubt look to continue this form against Burnley this week. 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games makes extremely good reading for those looking to bring him in this week. Southampton looked extremely good at Wembley at the weekend and were unlucky not to leave with the trophy. This week they take a trip to Watford, and in an attempt to put that loss behind them, they will look to the likes of Dusan Tadic to put them on the front foot. He bagged an assist last time out in the Premier League so he’ll be hoping to match or better that performance this weekend. Our final pick in midfield is Riyad Mahrez, who now looks to be up for playing back at the level he was last season. With a fixture against Hull this week, he could show why he was in so many fantasy teams last season!

Forwards

Finishing the Leicester City theme, we have Jamie Vardy. 2 goals against Liverpool and back to his best, no doubt he will find himself in many fantasy teams this weekend. With Manchester United hosting the early kick off against Bournemouth, it is hard to ignore Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The big Swede was unstoppable in the EFL Cup final and will likely be finding the back of the net against a Cherries side that cannot keep the goals out! Our final forward pick for Saturday is Manolo Gabbiadini, who has settled into the Southampton side with ease, scoring 5 goals in his first 3 games for the Saints. This week they travel to Watford and it would take a brave man to bet against him scoring again this week.

Must-Nots

Defence

Hull have the unfortunate task of trying to beat a rejuvenated Leicester City which, from watching Leicester play Liverpool, looks like it could be quite a task. Harry Maguire, Eldin Jakupovic and co may not find themselves in the points this week, so may be worth avoiding. Erik Pieters and Stoke City face Middlesbrough, which doesn’t sound like too much of a tough fixture, but when you consider that they let in 4 against Spurs last week and Middlesbrough have only conceded 28 goals all season which is a better record than all but 4 teams this campaign, it may be wise to avoid Stoke defensive cover. Nathaniel Clyne and Liverpool face Arsenal in the Saturday evening kick off, which is arguably the game of the weekend. Liverpool conceded 3 against Leicester and although Clyne may give some attacking fantasy football potential, it may just be wise to avoid this week, especially if the goal fest from the opening day of the season between these two is anything to go by!

Midfielders

West Brom have been in some good form of late, but Matt Phillips has to be a must not this week. Phillips has picked up a knock and will face a late fitness test, but if you do want some West Brom cover, then it might be wise to go with Nacer Chadli instead. Etienne Capoue had a brilliant start to the season and couldn’t stop finding the back of the net, however this week Watford face Southampton and with no goals in 14 gameweeks, he is considered a must not this week! Crystal Palace may have picked up a win last gameweek, but this weekend they face off against West Brom. It’ll be a tough fixture and whilst Andros Townsend does provide some attacking potential, the England midfielder hasn’t provided any attacking returns in the past 3 gameweeks.

Forwards

Most of the forwards have reasonable games this week, where you’d fancy most to score, but there are two must-nots we have selected. Firstly we have Troy Deeney, which may surprise some given the fact he has 4 goals from Watford’s last 5 outings. However, he faces an impressive Southampton side who will be looking to put last weekend’s cup final defeat behind them. Our final must-not from Saturday’s fixtures is Divock Origi, who not only is struggling for game time, but it also struggling to find the back of the net, which won’t get any easier as the Reds play Arsenal in the late kick off.
