Must-haves

Defence

Man City are on quite a run, scoring 10 goals in their last 2 games in all competitions! This weekend they face Sunderland, in a fixture they should win with ease. They should even have a good chance of a clean sheet, which they have managed on 2 of their last 3 outings in the league, meaning that John Stones and Willy Caballero could be good picks this week. Chelsea face West Ham in the Monday night game, and Marcos Alonso is a fantasy football gem, giving not only clean sheet potential but also the possibility of a goal or assist. Chelsea have actually failed to keep a clean sheet in 4 Premier League games but they will be looking to rectify this in East London this gameweek.

Midfielders

In the middle of the park we continue the Chelsea theme, and it is likely to be either Eden Hazard or Pedro who will be picking up the fantasy points from Chelsea this weekend. Pedro has been the better scorer of late, grabbing 2 goals and an assist in 2 league games, but we all know what Hazard can do if he’s in the right mood! Spurs, and more specifically, Christian Eriksen, have been in terrific form too, and they will be looking to their Danish playmaker to help them get past Everton this weekend. He managed 2 assists in the 4-0 mauling of Stoke last time out so he could well be in and amongst the action.

Up top there are 3 main must have options. To kick things off its Harry Kane, who is fresh off the back of a hat-trick against Stoke. Kane will do very well to do the same against Everton, but he always has the potential to find the back of the net. Our second is Diego Costa, who has a potentially tough fixture against West Ham. However, with the possibility of wrapping the title up by Easter, Chelsea will be keen to push on and brush West Ham aside. Our final and most favoured striker this week is Sergio Aguero. The Argentine is back in the starting XI and after 2 consecutive braces, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the City forward better this against a defensively weak Sunderland so get him in your teams!

Must-Nots

Defence

There are two teams that have notably tough fixtures – Sunderland and West Ham who face Man City and Chelsea respectively. That being said, the must nots are generally from those teams and therefore John O’Shea, Vito Mannone, Winston Reid and co should all be avoided this week. Both teams are without a win in 2 games and West Ham are without a clean sheet in 5.

Midfielders

In the middle of the park, our first must-not is Manuel Lanzini. The West Ham midfielder has helped fill the gap Dmitri Payet has left, contributing a goal and 3 assists in West Ham’s last 5, but with a tough game against Chelsea this week, it is unlikely that he will find himself amongst the fantasy points. Spurs and Everton face off in the early kick off on Sunday and it will be a tough encounter. Two of the most in-form strikers go head to head, but it’s likely to be a cagey affair. With only 4 goals and 6 assists this season, Ross Barkley may just be one to avoid this week.

Forwards

Jermain Defoe has been one of the bright sparks of Sunderland’s somewhat woeful season with 14 goals this season, however Sunderland face City this weekend and so it may not be the week for Defoe to reach 15. West Ham on the other hand have picked up some form of late and have been rising up the league. Andy Carroll has played quite a part in this with 3 goals from 5, but with a game against Chelsea, he may be another to avoid on Monday.
