Hockey rivals get engaged after world championships game (Video)

Cloë Keijzer is a defender for the Netherlands. Katie Henry is a forward for Great Britain. Their teams battled on Sunday at the IIHF Division IIA Women’s World Championships in South Korea, with the Dutch winning, 5-4.

Like many national team players, Keijzer and Henry aren’t exactly rivals away from worlds. In fact, they’re teammates, playing for the Solihull Vixens of the English Women’s Elite League together for the last two seasons.

Another point of fact: They’ve been in a long-term relationship together, going back to 2012, as has been chronicled quite adorably on Keijzer’s Twitter feed:

Dawwwwww….

So after their teams played on Sunday, Keijzer and Henry met up in the bowels of the arena. Her Dutch teammates were standing nearby. She motioned over to them, and they revealed bright orange shirts that read “NO. 6 MARRY ME?” (Henry wears No. 6.)

Keijzer got on bended knee, and asked her, and it was delightfully awkward, but we’re assuming she said “yes” because Keijzer ran over and celebrated with her teammates like she had just scored in overtime.

Congrats to the happy couple. We give you the win vs. John Cena and Nikki Bella for memorable post-competition engagements.
