Venue guide: Millennium Stadium

Where is it?: Westgate Street, Cardiff.

How do you get there?: As the stadium is situated right in the centre of Cardiff, public transport — rail or bus — is definitely your best bet. Cardiff Central railway and bus stations are only five minutes' walk away. There will be a park-and-ride service if you do decide to travel by car to the Welsh capital for the Games.

Capacity: 74,500.

What events will be held there and when?: Football (July 25, 26, 28, 31, August 1, 3, 4 and 10).

Public facilities: There are 27 bars and 15 food and drink outlets in the stadium.

History: Wales' national stadium, which is home to the country's rugby union and football teams, opened on the site of the old Cardiff Arms Park in time for the 1999 Rugby World Cup at a cost of £121 million. Two years later it staged the world's first indoor rugby union Test when the retractable roof was closed for Wales' match against Australia. Between 2001 and 2007 it hosted all of English football's major club finals while Wembley was being rebuilt, plus three rugby league Challenge Cup finals. The Rugby World Cup also returned there in 2007 and it was a venue for the rugby league version of the global competition in 2000. Speedway's Grand Prix of Great Britain has been held there as well, along with boxing, rallying, equestrian and cricket events. Sport is not its only use, though. It has also been employed for film and television productions, the Motor Show and music concerts.
