Cubs phenom Javier Baez blasts two homers, now has three in three games

You think Chicagoans are going to be excited when Javier Baez makes his Wrigley Field debut Friday? He likely whipped them into a frenzy Thursday with another exciting performance in just his third MLB game.

Baez, the 21-year-old Chicago Cubs phenom, hit two homers and knocked in four runs, as the Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies by the count of 6-2.

All hail, Prince Baez, heir to the North Side throne!

OK, so maybe that's a bit premature. But big things were already expected for Baez before he was called up to the big leagues. The hype is going to be huge now.

Baez and fellow slugging prospect Kris Bryant give Cubs fans plenty of hope for the future. Baez, in particular, hit 60 total homers the past two seasons in the minors.

No 21-year-old, no matter how lauded he is by the scouts, is expected to match that kind of production when he hits the big leagues. Many struggle right away, but Baez — and The Stew hopes we don't jinx him — hasn't disappointed so far.

In his MLB debut Tuesday, Baez had an extra-inning go-ahead homer that was eventually the game-winner. Then on Thursday, he re-introduced himself with the two homers — one to left field and one to right-center that showed he has some serious power.

Getting to start his career in Coors Field is a nice treat, of course, and that shouldn't be discounted when discussing Baez's three-homers-in-three-days start. The bigger spotlight will be on him Friday, when he debuts at Wrigley. But Baez doesn't seem to be flinching, at least not according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat:

Just another game. For one of the most anticipated young hitters in baseball. In front of a fan base so thirsty for success. No pressure, kid.
