Jonathan Toews gets into rare fight, scraps with Devils' Adam Henrique (Video)

Jonathan Toews is not known as a fighter. So when he drops it merits some mention.

Toews decided to fight Adam Henrique with 2:06 left in the first period of the Chicago Blackhawks' game against the New Jersey Devils.

According to Hockey Fights, Toews, the Blackhawks captain, hasn’t fought since the 2012-13 season, a tussle with San Jose Sharks (then captain) Joe Thornton on Feb. 13, 2013. This is just the fourth fight of Toews’ career according to the site.

What sparked the fight? Toews couldn't quite get into specifics after the game via the Chicago Sun-Times:

“Kind of a reaction thing,” Toews said of the fight, implying it wasn’t staged. “Usually, it’s not necessarily my thing, as we all know, to try and spark the team that way. I’d rather be on the ice making things happen in the offensive zone.”

He also fought St. Louis Blues forward David Backes in the 2009-10 regular season and Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal during the 2008-09 season.

Toews missed 22 games near the end of the 2011-12 regular season with a concussion. This is Henrique’s second NHL regular season fight of his career according to Hockey Fights, and his first regular season tussle since dropping the gloves with Jarome Iginla on Jan. 10, 2012.
