Nathan MacKinnon scores twice in 13 seconds, in same spot (Video)

It was a goal so nice, Nathan MacKinnon basically scored it twice.

At 18:25 of the first period in Montreal on Saturday night, the Canadiens won a faceoff in the defensive zone, but they couldn’t control the puck. Instead, MacKinnon stole it just a few strides away from goalie Mike Condon. He came out to challenge the Colorado Avalanche sniper; MacKinnon beat him with a nasty shot high to the glove side.

That gave the Avalanche a 2-0 lead.

Thirteen seconds later, it was 3-0, courtesy of MacKinnon.

This time the play started back in the Avalanche zone. Matt Duchene took at outlet pass from Erik Johnson, and gave it to MacKinnon. He passed to Mikhail Grigorenko on left wing, who then fed it back to MacKinnon. With Andrei Markov closing in, MacKinnon flipped a backhand shot … high, glove side, beating Condon for the second time in 13 seconds.

Ouch.

MacKinnon and Duchene have been on fire. The two goals gave MacKinnon eight points in his last six games. Duchene’s three first period points gave him eight in his last three games … which syncs up with those trade rumors that apparently lit a fire under him.
