Ryan Callahan blasts one past Corey Crawford after sick Hedman pass (Video)

CHICAGO – When Ryan Callahan beat Henrik Lundqvist on a breakaway in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference, many of us were like ‘wow, who knew he could do that?’

Well, may wonders never cease: Callahan, best known for deflections and garbage collection goals in front of the crease, beat Corey Crawford with a wicked, nearly unstoppable shot to open the scoring in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night.

And how about that pass from Victor Hedman? Hail Mary, down the ice to Callahan, taking advantage of a fall by Johnny Oduya at center ice. Hedman is having a whale of a series; coach Jon Cooper said this playoff run has been his introduction to the world.

As for Callahan, he knows how much secondary scoring matters in the series. From earlier in the Final, he said:

“You always put pressure on yourself to contribute and put points up and help on the scoresheet. It’s definitely an area we need to improve on and we have to do that in order for us to have success.”

As usual, Crawford has taken some heat for allowing a goal. But this one … well, I don’t think this is on Crow, and neither does another member of the goalie union:

The Lightning are 10-1 when scoring first. Although they lost Game 1 after opening the scoring. The Blackhawks tied the game later in the first on the power play.
