Soldier dressed as Jedi surprises family at AHL game (Video)

Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Headd is a huge Star Wars fan, so when he learned he would be coming home to Michigan after 10 months with the U.S. Army Reserve in Africa, he knew just how he would pull off surprising his three kids.

It was “Star Wars Night” during Saturday’s AHL Grand Rapids Griffins game, and in attendance were reenactors from the 501st Legion/Great Lakes Garrison, a group that Headd is a part of. During an intermission, the group came out on to the ice with the family for a photo. It was then that one Jedi knight stepped forward to reveal himself, much to the delight the children.

According to WoodTV8, Headd’s wife, Maggie, arranged the special surprise with the group as the kids still believed their daddy wasn’t coming home for another two months.

“It was a lot more emotional than I thought It was going to be,” Headd said. “Oh, it felt great. I mean, it’s overwhelming.”
