2024 College World Series: Predictions and odds for Texas A&M-Tennessee

It's do or die for Game 3 of the College World Series between No. 1 Tennessee and No. 3 Texas A&M. Each school is looking for their first national title, and each team is just one win away from securing it.

It was the underdog Aggies who came out on top in Game 1 with a 9-5 win, bolstered by a five-run third inning. However, the Volunteers wouldn't go down easy, picking up a 4-1 victory in Game 2 yesterday. Tennessee will have the edge on the mound in Game 3, as they send senior pitcher Zander Sechrist (5-1, 3.22 ERA) to the bump, while Justin Lamkin (3-2, 5.00 ERA) will make the start for Texas A&M.

Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel: Tennessee 9, Texas A&M 6

Wilson likes the edge that Tennessee has on the mound. He writes, "Zander Sechrist has changed Tennessee's season in the final month by emerging as a reliable and steady third starter. He has thrown four quality starts in his past five outings. He didn't give up an earned run in 4⅔ innings in the only start that didn't qualify as a quality start."

Joe Tansey, Bleacher Report: Texas A&M 5, Tennessee 3

Tansey writes, "A&M excelled at slowing down Christian Moore, Blake Burke and Billy Amick at the top of the Tennessee order. They are a combined 7-for-25 in the series. Tennessee needs one or more of those three sluggers to wake up at the plate in Game 3 to pull away from the Aggies. Conversely, the key for whomever toes the rubber for A&M is to keep the Vols' top power bats at bay so that one third of their lineup is neutralized. A&M's had a balanced approach on offense throughout the championship series, and although it is not known for the long ball as much as Tennessee, it has three home runs in the series."

Ian MacMillan, Sports Illustrated: Tennessee (-1.5)

MacMillan writes, "The Vols are rightfully set as significant favorites tonight and we should feel comfortable backing them on the run line. Texas A&M lost its chance to win this series in Game 2. Tennessee's depth will lead to a big win tonight."
