3-0 win sees Worcester City Women secure league title and promotion

Worcester City Women struck gold as they secured the league title with a 3-0 victory over Shifnal Town.

This victory marked City's final home game of the season, with the umpire’s whistle sparking vibrant celebrations as the side secured their promotion into the National League (tier four).

Worcester’s prowess was evident from the onset.

Within the first minute, shots by Jess Fassnidge and Olivia Mitcham were both blocked before resulting in the earlier slotting the loose ball into the bottom left corner for an early lead.

Despite the onslaught, Shifnal managed to carve out opportunities throughout the match, but goalkeeper Sofia Stolt kept the visitors at bay.

Worcester came close to doubling their lead as the half-time whistle neared, when Leah Ritson's corner was met by Cerys Dolloway, who had her header blocked.

With intent reminiscent of the first half, Worcester began the second half on a high note.

A staggering shot by Sophie Griffiths from the right-hand side of the box found the top corner, lending Worcester some breathing room.

City got their third as Mitcham drove forward towards the box, before playing across to Fassnidge, who weaved her way passed a defender with some tricky footwork to calmly place the ball into the bottom left corner, and put the game beyond reach.

All City fans had to do at that point was patiently wait for the final whistle, which eventually was blown to confirm the league title, and kick off the promotion party.
