Eden Hazard, Tanguy Ndombele and Jadon Sancho feature in today’s gossip

Wednesday in the first week of the international break: footballing wasteland.

There is no Champions League to talk about, Carabao Cup draws to get excited about or even over-hyped Premier League fixtures to spend an entire week looking forward to.

Instead, it is all about the UEFA Nations League and an England friendly in Croatia.

Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move for £55m rated midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The Lyon midfield general has impressed this season, breaking into the France squad just months after they were crowned world champions.

Spurs did not make a single signing during the summer transfer window, but reports in France say they had a £40m bid for the 21-year-old rejected.

Now The Mirror report that Spurs are prepared to go back in for Ndombele, who could cost as much as £55m after a string of dominant performances to start his season.

Ndombele’s contract has been extended to 2023 and Manchester City are also thought to have him on their radar, after he was one of the stars of Lyon’s unlikely victory at the Etihad in the first set of Champions League group games.

But City also have Ruben Neves and Frenkie de Jong, of Wolves and Holland respectively, on their sights.

Buy-back

Jadon Sancho looks set to be a regular feature in gossip columns going forward

Yesterday’s gossip column contained the story that Spurs, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea were keen on Sancho, but there is a catch.

The England starlet left Man City last summer, rejecting a new deal and choosing to sign for Borussia Dortmund in a quest for first-team football.

But the 18-year-old insists there are no hard feelings and City inserted a buy-back clause into the deal to sell him to Dortmund, according to the Manchester Evening News.

That means if Dortmund accept an offer for the forward, City have first refusal and if they match that offer, Sancho may well head back to the Etihad Stadium.

Waiting game

Eden Hazard will either be at Chelsea or Real Madrid tomorrow

Eden Hazard’s quotes after Chelsea’s victory over Southampton saw the Belgian given plenty of praise.

He said a move to Real Madrid his his dream, that he loves playing for Chelsea, that he couldn’t lie and say he didn’t want to play for Real, but also that he loves London.

Basically Hazard knows as much about his future as we do.

But this morning a The Telegraph say that Hazard is essentially waiting to see what Madrid do before deciding his Chelsea future.

If they prepare to make a multi-million pound for him, then he’ll be off. If they do not, he is keen to stay at Chelsea.

That clears it up somewhat, but the uncertainty surrounding Hazard’s future is still there. Not that it has stopped him so far this season.
