It is only a matter of time now before Liverpool enters the transfer market this summer. There have been links to the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Riccardo Calafiori, while Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon was reportedly part of transfer discussions over the weekend to help the Magpies alleviate their PSR concerns.

But nothing concrete has emerged yet. And with two international tournaments, and new Reds boss Arne Slot yet to have worked first-hand with his Reds squad, it seems it might be a few weeks before concrete transfer plans begin to emerge.

However, there are several free agents currently on the market who could be of interest to the Reds as they look to improve their squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

Liverpool has of course said goodbye to two players at the ends of their contracts in Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip but could now be tempted to enter the market. Liverpool.com has taken a look at who could be of interest to Slot and co.

Adrien Rabiot

Currently playing for France at Euro 2024, Adrien Rabiot is a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired. The 29-year-old midfielder featured in all of France's group-stage games, and will almost certainly play a part in their round-of-16 knockout clash against Belgium too.

While Liverpool's midfield is currently quite stacked, Rabiot could be an interesting addition. He would bring experience to the Reds engine room. However, at 29, Liverpool might want to look at bringing in younger profiles. Rabiot will almost certainly be looking for a hefty wage packet, and Juventus are reportedly keen to tie him down to a new contract this summer despite his existing deal having been allowed to expire.

Memphis Depay

A flop at Manchester United but a reasonable success at the clubs he has played for since, Memphis Depay is currently without a club after being released by Atletico Madrid.

The Dutch forward can operate all across the front three, and could be a versatile rotation option for Liverpool's attack. The 30-year-old's numbers last season weren't the best, with Depay scoring just five goals in La Liga, and nine in all competitions.

Mario Hermoso

With links to Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori seemingly persisting this summer, it looks as though the Reds are keen on adding a left-footed centre-back to their squad.

Should they wish to look towards a cheaper option to the Italian, who will likely cost in the region of $50m (£40m/ €42m), then left-footed Spaniard Mario Hermoso could be a player Liverpool look at.

Similarly released by Atletico Madrid like Depay, Hermoso made over 170 appearances for the La Liga side during his five-year spell and is capable of operating at both left-back and centre-back.

If started at left-back, the addition of Hermoso would allow Liverpool to shift into a three-two shape in build-up. That would give Trent Alexander-Arnold the chance to invert into midfield, while the Spaniard would sit in defence alongside Virgil van Dijk, and one of Jarell Quansah, or Ibrahima Konate.

Raphael Varane

A few years ago, it would have been unthinkable to say Raphael Varane would be available as a free agent. However, following his exit from Old Trafford after helping Manchester United win the FA Cup against Manchester City, Varane is looking for a new club.

An experienced defender who has won it all, a move for the Frenchman doesn't seem too likely, who will surely be on the radar of Saudi Pro League sides this summer.

Keylor Navas

Keylor Navas could serve as an experienced backup keeper to Alisson. The 37-year-old is a free agent this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

With Liverpool potentially looking to move on Caoimhin Kelleher in the transfer window, and Adrian set to leave to return to Spain, bringing in an experienced goalkeeper like Navas could be a smart move for the Reds.
